On Thursday, President Obama called for an initial down payment of $8 billion to start the construction of a high speed rail service that would clear some of the congestion from America’s highways and airways. What should we make of this idea? What would the whole thing likely cost? Will this be another Amtrak operation that just loses money year after year?
