McConnell’s Last Year as Leader, Newsom’s Shady Favoritism, Trump vs. Biden at the Border

February 29, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “McConnell’s Last Year as Leader, Newsom’s Shady Favoritism, Trump vs. Biden at the Border” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for three important martinis ranging from the U.S. Senate to the border to cronyism in politics.
First, they react to Sen. Mitch McConnell announcing this will be his final year as Senate Republican leader. They break down McConnell’s record on reshaping the U.S. Supreme Court by pushing through the nominations of Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett. They dig into his willingness to be the villain to protect other GOP members, but also the frustration conservatives have with his failure to fight harder for less spending and not being more aggressive on certain policy goals. And, of course, they preview the fight to replace McConnell as leader.
Then they document the shady exemption to California’s new law raising the minimum wage for fast food workers from $16 to $20 per hour for establishments that bake their own bread on site and sell it individually. This seems to be a specific carve out for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s friend and donor who owns a bunch of Panera franchises in the state.
Finally, they assess today’s dueling border visits from Biden and Trump, what we can glean by the different areas of the border they are visiting, and why Biden’s eagerness to reverse anything Trump did in office is coming back to bite him hardest at the border.

NATO Allies Reject Troops in Ukraine, Border Crisis & A Small Town, Biden vs. Reality on Ceasefire

February 28, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “NATO Allies Reject Troops in Ukraine, Border Crisis & A Small Town, Biden vs. Reality on Ceasefire” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for three big new martinis!

First, they slam French President Emmanuel Macron for publicly refusing to rule out sending troops to Ukraine. But they were glad to see the U.S., Great Britain, and Germany immediately shoot down the notion that such a move was on the table..

Then, they dig into a Washington Free Beacon story about how the border crisis is overwhelming a small, fairly progressive community in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The city is scrambling for money after services for migrants put it in a $400,000 budget bind. Meanwhile, drug activity and STD’s are on the rise. And this is happening in plenty of other communities in this country.

Finally, they scratch their heads as President Biden told reporters that he thinks an Israel-Hamas ceasefire will be in place this weekend. Yet the Israelis, Hamas, and Qatar all publicly say there hasn’t been much progress at all on any of the major issues that need to be addressed before a pause in fighting can happen,

NYC Mayor Wants Criminal Aliens Deported, No Blame for Sec. Austin Going AWOL, Hijackings & Protests

February 27, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “NYC Mayor Wants Criminal Aliens Deported, No Blame for Sec. Austin Going AWOL, Hijackings & Protests” on Spreaker.

The good martini is back today, so please join Jim and Greg for that plus the usual bad and crazy ones.
First, they welcome New York City Mayor Eric Adams embracing a blatantly obvious reality and urging the New York City Council to amend its sanctuary city law and allow for illegal aliens who commit felonies to be handed over to ICE and deported.
They also sigh as a Pentagon report examining the failure of Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin and his staff to inform President Biden and many other relevant personnel for several days when Austin was in the hospital last month determines there should be no reprimands given out because no one intended any harm.
Finally, in the wake of the U.S. Air Force service member who fatally set himself on fire to protest U.S. and Israeli policy towards Gaza, they marvel at the viral online lament that people aren’t allowed to protest, march, or go on hunger strikes (all untrue) which then adds hijacking rioting, and throwing Molotov cocktails to the same list.

Policy Failures That Facilitated Murder, Ronna’s Awkward RNC Exit, Why Haley Would Be a 3rd Party Flop

February 26, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Policy Failures That Facilitated Murder, Ronna’s Awkward RNC Exit, Why Haley Would Be a 3rd Party Flop” on Spreaker.

There are no good martinis to start the week but Jim and Greg are ready to dig into one horrifically bad martini and two crazy ones.

First, they’re incensed over the death of nursing student Laken Riley, allegedly at the hands of a Venezuelan man who entered the U.S. illegally. In addition, the suspect was arrested for assaulting a child in New York City but officials there released him before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could take him into custody. In addition, rather than focusing on either of those policy problems, the mainstream media quickly decided that the real story here is that women face risks when jogging alone and, of course, that Republicans are pouncing on this terrible news.

Next, they get a kick out of RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel announcing she will resign in the next couple of weeks and trying to make us believe that major party chairs regularly step down in the middle of a presidential election year.

Finally, there is increasing buzz about former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley running as a third party candidate. But, as Jim points out, her current campaign creates a very big problem if Haley wants to switch gears for November.

NY Court Blocks Non-Citizen Voting, CBS vs. Herridge, McCaskill Slams NYT for Fact-Checking Biden

February 23, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “NY Court Blocks Non-Citizen Voting, CBS vs. Herridge, McCaskill Slams NYT for Fact-Checking Biden” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they return to their usual good, bad, and crazy martinis and head into the weekend!

First, they welcome the decision from a New York appeals court that New York City’s efforts to allow 800,000 non-citizens to vote in local elections is unconstitutional. Limiting voting to citizens is a no-brainer but Jim fears this issue will eventually wind up at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Next, they react to the news that CBS not only laid off stellar reporter Catherine Herridge but seized her files, computers, and records, including information about confidential sources. Even SAG-AFTRA is denouncing CBS in very strong terms. Just how big of a threat is this to the freedom of the press?

Finally, they shake their heads as former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill (who is now an MSNBC contributor) blasts the New York Times for fact-checking President Biden because she thinks they aren’t aggressive enough in calling out Donald Trump’s falsehoods. This feeds into the maddening view of some on the left who genuinely see the role the media as doing everything it can to help Biden and defeat Trump.

A ‘Final Solution’ for Israel? Way Too Many Think RFK Jr. is His Dad, Biden & Commander

February 22, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “A ‘Final Solution’ for Israel? Way Too Many Think RFK Jr. is RFK, Biden & Commander” on Spreaker.

Sit back and enjoy all crazy martinis today, as Jim and Greg survey cringeworthy stories from the United Nations to the campaign trail to the White House.

First, they sigh as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield says from a prepared statement she is pursuing a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and will tirelessly pursue diplomacy “until we reach a final solution.” Does no one in her office have a decent grasp on history or have the sense to take that phrasing out of her comments?

Not to be outdone in the dim bulb department, a poll taken after the pro-Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. ad during the Super Bowl reveals that 36 percent of likely voters think that RFK Jr. is actually his father, Robert F. Kennedy, who ran for president in 1968 and was assassinated during that campaign.

Finally, reports confirm that Pres. Biden’s dog, Commander, is responsible for 24 biting incidents – mostly against Secret Service agents – and nearly half of them required medical attention. This is the second Biden dog known for its rampant biting, and while Jim says this isn’t the most critical issue facing our nation, it does reveal some disturbing trends.

Jewish Voters Bailing on Biden? Stubborn Food Inflation, Ezra Klein Tells Joe to Go

February 21, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Jewish Voters Bailing on Biden? Stubborn Food Inflation, Ezra Klein Tells Joe to Go” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for three compelling martinis focusing on major 2024 headaches for Joe Biden, with a bit of relevant pop culture thrown in.
First, they’re stunned by a new Siena College poll showing Donald Trump ahead of Joe Biden by nine points among Jewish voters in New York. Given Biden’s 38-point win among Jewish voters four years ago, that would be a major shift in response to Biden’s handling of the Hamas terrorist attacks, the ensuing war, and the rampant anti-Semitism expressed on college campuses and beyond.
Next, they dig into the ever-worsening problem of food inflation. While year-over-year inflation is down from 40-year highs, we’re still paying for all of those increases. Plus, restaurant and grocery costs are still rising and having a very real, devastating impact on American families.
Finally, even lefty Ezra Klein is urging Biden to pack up and head off into retirement. Beyond the question of whether the president can do the job for another four years, Klein says Biden isn’t even in shape to campaign this year.

Biden Mulls Border Orders, Debt Interest Exceeds Defense Spending, Labeling Biden as ‘Great’

February 20, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Biden Mulls Border Orders, Debt Interest Exceeds Defense Spending, Labeling Biden as ‘Great'” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they break down what Biden is reportedly considering on the border, the interest on our debt rapidly spiraling out of control, and an ex-GOP campaign figure telling Dems to declare Biden a “great” president.

First, they assess an Axios story about how Biden is considering executive action that could significantly reduce the number of people illegally flooding into our country. He allegedly wants to claim that he taking action on the issue while Republicans just talk about it. Taking this action would not only confirm what conservatives have been screaming this for years about executive action, but, if done right, would actually do some good – even if it’s only an election year ploy.

Then they fume at the news that paying off the quickly accumulating interest on our $34 trillion+ national debt will cost more than defense spending this year. Higher interest rates are the reason for the higher payments, but reckless spending is the reason that higher interest rates were needed. And neither party has any interest in even discussing possible remedies for our debt.

Finally, they get a big laugh out of former Republican campaign official turned Lincoln Project figure Stuart Stevens pleading with Democrats to go beyond arguing that Biden is preferable to Trump and start declaring Biden to be a “great” president.

Red States & the Economy, State Dept. IG Probes Biden’s Iran Envoy, Egypt Fed Up with Hamas

February 19, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Red States & the Economy, State Dept. IG Probes Biden’s Iran Envoy, Egypt Fed Up with Hamas” on Spreaker.

Please pause your celebrations of Benjamin Harrison and James Buchanan on this Presidents Day and join Jim and Greg for good, bad, and crazy martinis.

First, after a few opening thoughts on how celebrating Washington and Lincoln has now been diluted into recognizing all presidents and how we can reverse this, Jim and Greg dig into an ABC News report on how the strongest states economically are predominantly red states. However, the story spends much more time asserting that better weather and progressive cities in red states are the key to success and attracting more businesses and employees. However, the real reasons are simple: lower taxes, right to work laws, and less regulation.

They also welcome a more formal State Department Inspector General investigation into the rather abrupt dismissal and stripping of security clearance for Biden’s Iran envoy, Robert Malley. The Semafor story breaking the news also lays out red flags concerning Malley before Biden even took office.

Finally, they welcome Egypt’s foreign minister getting fed up with Hamas for refusing to recognize Israel and failing to renounce its genocidal tactics in order to bring a ceasefire to the area.

And please enjoy the Presidents Day special Jim and I did about four underappreciated presidents back in 2020. https://www.spreaker.com/episode/america-s-underappreciated-presidents–22780285

Fani’s Crumbling Credibility, Biden’s Denial Debunked, Chicago’s Criminal Incompetence

February 16, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Fani’s Crumbling Credibility, Biden’s Denial Debunked, Chicago’s Criminal Incompetence” on Spreaker.

Jim Geraghty is back today as he and Greg serve up three compelling martinis to close out the week!
First, they take a look what seems to be the devastating case exposing the lying and corruption of Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis. She is now in serious legal danger after lying about the details of her personal relationship with a man she hired to prosecute former President Trump on racketeering charges. Even more serious, her lover paid for their lavish vacations on the office’s credit card. He and Willis claim she reimbursed him in cash so there no way way to confirm it.
They also groan as President Biden is either caught in another lie or another senior moment. Just days after Biden denied forgetting when his son died and claimed to remember being angry that he was even asked about it, NBC News reports that the special counsel did not ask about it. Biden brought it up and got it wrong. They also discuss how Biden’s enraged tough guy act is pathetic and tiresome.
Finally, they highlight the criminal incompetence of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. This week, Johnson said he was ending the city’s contract with ShotSpotter, the audio technology that alerts police when and where gunshots are fired. Johnson also said he planned to keep the technology until after this summer’s Democratic National Convention. But the company says without a contract, it’s shutting down the service today.
