Geraghty Returns, Personal Debt Delinquency Soars, McConnell Freezes Again

August 31, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Geraghty Returns, Personal Debt Delinquency Soars, McConnell Freezes Again” on Spreaker.

Jim Geraghty is back! Today, Jim and Greg spend the good martini giving a short overview of Jim’s trip to Ukraine and what he learned there. Don’t miss Monday’s 3 Martini Lunch, when they devote their Labor Day episode to the good, bad, and crazy things that Jim observed in Ukraine. They also recoil as the percentages of Americans delinquent on credit card debt, auto loan debt, and and personal loan debt are at their highest levels in more than a decade. Finally, they react to another moment where Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell seems to freeze during a press conference, and Jim says McConnell’s team owes the American people a full, honest explanation of the senator’s health.

DeSantis & the Storm, Gold Star Parents & Biden, Dems Dodge Transparency

August 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “DeSantis & the Storm, Gold Star Parents & Biden, Dems Dodge Transparency” on Spreaker.

Ricochet.com Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim, who will return on Thursday. Today, Jon and Greg applaud the competence and preparedness of Gov. DeSantis in Florida as Hurricane Idalia comes ashore. They also note the anguish of the parents of American service members who were killed two years ago in the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate in Kabul – and their frustration at President Biden’s disastrous policies and his callous treatment of them ever since. Finally, they highlight a lawsuit in Michigan after an email about the 2021 Benton Harbor water crisis was written with Greek letters to avoid showing up in a Freedom of Information request. And it was written that way because it suggested the government was caught flat-footed on the crisis.

Timestamps:

0:39 – Hurricane Idalia hits Florida and the state preparedness seems to be excellent yet again.

6:53 – Parents of service members killed in the Abbey Gate terrorist attack express their anguish and their frustration with Biden and his administration.

14:17 – Energy consultant for Michigan Gov. Whitmer accused of hiding his email from Freedom of Information requests by using Greek letters to share bad news about a water crisis.

Oregon Ready to Repeal, Housing Market Headaches, Assessing Vivek

August 29, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Oregon Ready to Repeal, Housing Market Headaches, Assessing Vivek” on Spreaker.

Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim. Today, Jon and Greg follow up on a recent martini and welcome even more evidence that Oregon voters are ready to reverse the 2020 referendum that gave people possessing hard drugs like heroin and fentanyl a small fine instead of jail time. A new poll shows a strong majority of Oregon voters ready for a full repeal or significant changes to the law. They also cringe at the state of the housing market as interest rates keep rising and the inventory of houses on the market plummets compared to pre-pandemic levels. Finally, they take a closer look at Vivek Ramaswamy and whether recent controversies about his statements on Israel and Taiwan are unfair to him or whether Vivek is not ready for the big stage.

Dems’ 2024 Dilemma, Ceiling Fan Wars, Biden’s Media Enablers

August 28, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Dems’ 2024 Dilemma, Ceiling Fan Wars, Biden’s Media Enablers” on Spreaker.

Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim. Today, Jon and Greg examine new polls showing more than three-quarters of Americans and nearly 70 percent of Democrats think Joe Biden is too old to be president for another four years. So do the Dems roll the dice on Biden anyway and hope Trump is even less popular? Do they push Biden out ad gamble on Kamala Harris? Or do they find someone else entirely? They also groan as the Biden Energy Department demands changes to make ceiling fans more energy efficient. But the laughably minimal energy savings will be dwarfed by the $86.6 million per year that manufacturers will need to spend to comply with the new rules. Finally, they cringe as the Biden administration clearly plants a question with compliant reporter about COVID and both the reporter and Biden make the ruse painfully obvious. Finally, they remember Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” whom the media went after with full venom because he dared to challenge Barack Obama about tax policies during the 2008 campaign.

Timestamps:

1:03 – Overwhelming majority of Americans think Biden is too old for another term.

8:58 – Biden administration’s war on ceiling fans

15:44 – Media’s pathetic enabling of Biden

19:04 – Remembering “Joe the Plumber” and the media’s horrific treatment of him.

Trump Booked, Toxic Paper Straws, Hiring Discrimination Suits, NY Begs for Migrant Aid

August 25, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Trump Booked, Toxic Paper Straws, Hiring Discrimination Suits, NY Begs for Migrant Aid” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim. Today, Scot and Greg discuss a new study showing toxic chemicals are used to repel water in most paper and bamboo straws. They also dive into two curious employment discrimination suits: five current and former Gannett newspaper employees charge the organization with policies that discriminate against white employees. And the Justice Department is suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX for not hiring alleged refugees and asylum seekers and only hiring U.S. citizens or legal residents.  Finally, they sigh as New York Gov. Kathy Hochul follows the nonsensical lead of Massachusetts and demands federal aid for housing, education, and health care while also urging expedited work authorization. Scot and Greg point out that will only create a bigger stampede of people trying to enter the U.S. illegally.
Timestamps:
1:10 – Trump booked in Atlanta.
4:32 – Study shows toxic chemicals are found in many paper straws
11:53 – Gannett sued for discriminating against white people. DOJ sues SpaceX for not hiring people claiming to be refugees or seeking asylum.
18:23 – New York Gov. Hochul begs Biden for federal aid to subsidize housing, education, and health care for people who came to the U.S. illegally and ended up in New York.

Debate Aftermath, ‘People Need to Go to Jail,’ California GOP’s Surrender

August 24, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Debate Aftermath, ‘People Need to Go to Jail,’ California GOP’s Surrender” on Spreaker.

Inez Stepman of the Independent Women’s Forum and host of the “High Noon” podcast is in for Jim. Today, Inez and Greg break down the first GOP debate. Who did well? Who struggled? And did anything happen to dent Trump’s big lead? They also discuss the potentially criminal incompetence of officials in Maui that contributed to deaths of as many as 1,000 people and destroyed Lahaina. Inez lays out an infuriating series of bureaucratic insanity that wasted time and prioritized woke goals over people’s lives. Finally, they shake their heads as the California Republican Party voluntarily surrenders on a multitude of issues – and not just the cultural positions that are unpopular in the state but on several key issues where the public agrees with the longstanding GOP platform.

Timestamps:

0:45 – Analysis of the first GOP presidential debate, focusing on DeSantis, Ramaswamy, Haley, and Pence.

10:51 – Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson

14:46 – Inez lists a multitude of ways that incompetence among officials in Maui cost many lives and argues there should be a full investigation and probably serious prosecution over the many inexcusable mistakes.

22:39 – The California Republican Party surrenders on many key issues, including positions that had been popular statewide

Radical ‘Green’ Goals, America’s Deep Pessimism, Record Drug Use & Drinking

August 23, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Radical ‘Green’ Goals, America’s Deep Pessimism, Record Drug Use & Drinking” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim. After a quick GOP debate preview, Scot and Greg tackle three heavy issues. First, they highlight a progressive cities climate group that admits it wants to end meat and dairy consumption and private vehicle ownership – preferably by the end of this decade. They also want drastic reductions in clothes purchases and air travel, and 14 U.S. cities have already signed on to this global initiative. They also dissect a new poll showing 56 percent of Republicans and 20 percent of Democrats think our nation is in danger of failing and discuss why that’s the case. Finally, they shudder at a new report from the University of Michigan showing huge increases in binge drinking and marijuana use among Americans aged 35-50. And the numbers among younger adults is pretty bad too.

Timestamps:

0:58 – Previewing Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate

3:11 – New global progressive cities climate group admits radical ‘green’ goals on meat and dairy consumption, private vehicle ownership and much more.

10:42 – New York Times poll shows 37 percent of Americans and 56 percent of Republicans think the U.S. is in danger of failing.

18:20 – University of Michigan survey shows record binge drinking and marijuana use among Americans aged 35-50. And one in ten young adults use marijuana every day.

The Truth of Bidenomics, DOJ’s Pro-Biden Corruption, Trump’s Clever Strategy

August 22, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The Truth of Bidenomics, DOJ’s Pro-Biden Corruption, Trump’s Clever Strategy” on Spreaker.

Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim. After Andy and Greg explain where Jim is this week, they highlight the cold hard facts of the impact “Bidenomics” is having on American families – everything is much more expensive and the president wants you to grateful for it. Andy also breaks down the latest revelations in pathetic prosecution of Hunter Biden after emails from Biden defense lawyers show Biden was going to avoid prosecution altogether until the IRS whistleblowers went public. Oh, and they want the whistleblowers prosecuted. Finally, they marvel at how Donald Trump will totally overshadow the Wednesday debate he is skipping because his booking on Thursday will smother coverage of any big moments on the debate stage.

Timestamps:

0:18 – Explaining where Jim Geraghty is

1:54 – Rep. Burgess explains just how expensive “Bidenomics” is for American families

9:07 – Emails from Hunter Biden’s legal team show federal prosecutors had no intention of filing any charges until the IRS whistleblowers came forward.

20:16 – Trump will completely overshadow Wednesday’s debate with his booking on Thursday and likely increase his lead in the primaries.

Trump Declines Debates, Media’s Maui Malpractice, Chicago’s Shooting Hours

August 21, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Trump Declines Debates, Media’s Maui Malpractice, Chicago’s Shooting Hours” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim. Today, Scot and Greg serve up all crazy martinis. First, they react to Donald Trump’s apparent decision to skip not only this week’s first GOP presidential debate but to skip all of them. Trump does not see them as necessary given his big leads nationally and in key states, but there are several reasons why he may want to reconsider. They also shudder as Hawaii Gov. Josh Green admits it’s possible or even likely that many of the more than one thousand people still missing from the Maui wildfires are children. But the grim news also raises a big question. How is the likely death of several hundred children not the dominant headline every single day? When looking at previous disasters, the answer seems to be a very predictable one. Finally, they’re almost at a loss for words at the suggestion from a Chicago alderwoman that the number of shootings and killings can be reduced by asking gangs only to shoot people between 9 p.m. – 9 a.m.

Is Menendez Vulnerable? Major Maui Mistakes, Trump’s Odd Request

August 18, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Is Menendez Vulnerable? Major Maui Mistakes, Trump’s Odd Request” on Spreaker.

Jim and Greg begin today’s podcast with a tribute to former New York Sen. James Buckley. The brother of National Review Founder William F. Buckley, Jr., Jim Buckley served the nation with honor in World War II and then in all three branches of the federal government, including chief judge of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. He was 100 years old.

Then they serve up their usual martinis, starting with a new Monmouth Poll showing New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez has just a 35 percent approval rating heading into an election year – thanks in part to yet another federal investigation examining allegations of corruption. They also wince at all the apparent mistakes made by local officials before and during the horrific wildfires that devastated Lahaina. Finally, they’re curious why Trump is urging all the other Republican presidential candidates to drop out if he has such a huge lead.

Timestamps:

0:21 – Remembering former Senator and Judge James Buckley.

3:04 – New Jersey Sen. Menendez suffers low approval amidst another federal probe. Could the GOP have a chance to unseat him next year?

10:17 – Government mistakes made the Hawaii wildfire devastation even worse.

17:36 – Trump urges all other GOP presidential candidates to drop out.
