Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and longtime Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today.
Today, Jon and Greg react to Russian President Vladimir Putin saying he prefers President Biden over former President Trump, calling Biden “more experienced and more predictable.” Trump calls it a compliment while Biden supporters say Putin is trying some reverse psychology.
They also recoil as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell tells National Review he doesn’t know how U.S. ammunition and ordnance will get replenished unless the Ukraine aid bill gets passed. Regardless of what anyone thinks of assistance for Ukraine, why in the world is our own national security dependent on this legislation?
Finally, Jon takes an extra shot of espresso as he flays the latest efforts to urge people to stay away from coffee. Last time, the fun police said coffee was harming the planet. Now they claim caffeine is dangerous to your health. Jon isn’t buying that for a second.

Join Jim and Greg as they kick off the week with three difficult martinis!
First, they’re furious over Iranian-backed militia forces targeting, killing, and wounding American troops in Jordan. What is the best way to punish Iran now since President Biden’s “proportionate” approach did not deter the first 150 attacks?
Then they cringe as White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre completely mangles a short message of condolences for the families of the American personnel killed in Jordan and even suggests our military fights for the Biden administration.
Finally, they dissect the latest insanity from Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar after she says her first loyalty is to Somalia followed by Islam. Is America anywhere on her short list?

Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim today, and he and Greg serve up three lousy martinis.
First, they roll their eyes as the United Nations’ irrelevant International Court of Justice orders Israel to stop committing acts of genocide in Gaza, must allow aid to flow in, and must not destroy evidence of alleged genocide. The court did not demand an immediate ceasefire, which South Africa had requested.
They also groan as President Biden suspends liquefied natural gas exports to certain nations due to climate change concerns. Andy explains how this is a major giveaway to Russia and they both shake their heads over how Biden appears to be caving to environmental activists in pretending that natural gas is bad for the planet.
Finally, they get a kick out of a Yale University law professor arguing that the self-described originalists on the Supreme Court must boot Donald Trump from the ballot or they will be hypocrites and…of course…the legitimacy of the Supreme Court will be damaged.

The New Hampshire primaries are in the books and we’ve got two martinis reviewing the votes and one other truly crazy idea.
First, they applaud Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips for getting nearly 20 percent of the vote on the Democrats’ side even though the primary was non-binding. They also appreciate him being only one of the few Democrats bothering to speak with Trump supporters and not writing them off as unredeemable like President Biden often does.
Then they react to Donald Trump’s double-digit win over Nikki Haley in the Republican primary. And with Haley winning a large majority of unaffiliated voters, does this indicate that these voters are gettable for the GOP or were they just creating mischief?
Finally, they react to conflicting reports that Vladimir Putin is seeking to restore additional territory that once belonged to Russia – including Alaska.

Listen to “2023 Martini Awards Part 4: Best Idea, Worst Idea, Boldest Tactic” on Spreaker.
More year-end awards today! Jim and Greg embark on the second half of their six-episode series of the 3 Three Martini Lunch Awards. Today, they offer up their selections for the Best Political Idea, Worst Political Idea, and Boldest Political Tactics for the year.
They start with the best ideas of the year. Jim chooses an event that actually happened late last year but the true impact of it has been felt far and wide in 2023. Meanwhile, Greg’s award goes to a critical policy movement that made significant progress this year.
Then it’s time for the worst political ideas of the year, with both Jim and Greg finding so many terrible ideas that they both have multiple winners with no overlapping. Jim focuses on three terrible and simply wrong ideas pursued by the Biden administration on the international stage. Whereas, Greg highlights United Nations advocacy of a truly terrible idea that should horrify every parent. And he cites a governor’s effort to blatantly defy the Constitution.
Finally, they’re on to boldest political tactics for 2023, with neither of them agreeing with the tactics they chose to honor. Jim starts with a move made in the 2024 presidential campaign that was widely unpopular but has undoubtedly worked well. And Greg points to am aggressive and disruptive move on Capitol Hill.
Don’t miss Thursday’s special edition as Jim and Greg reveal their choices for Most Overreported Story, Most Underreported Story, and the Best Story of 2023.
Thanks for listening to the 3 Martini Lunch!

Join Jim and Greg as they remember the long and complicated legacy of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who advised presidents for 60 years before his death Wednesday at the age of 100. They highlight Kissinger’s record and why he is deeply respected by some deeply reviled by others.
They also hammer Hamas for the deadly shootings of Israeli civilians in Jerusalem, including a pregnant teacher, and what this means for the temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
Finally, they scratch their heads after former President Trump claims he has the support of a former Black LIves Matter official and from the organization itself. While the veracity of the BLM support is drawing scrutiny, why would Trump want it in the first place?

Jim spent more than a week in Taiwan, getting first-hand briefing and answers to key questions about how our ally is bracing for a possible Chinese invasion. Today, Jim briefs us on what he learned – the good the bad and the crazy.
First, Jim explains the significant advantages Taiwan has in the event of Chinese aggression. From the physical characteristics of the island to the massive urban setting and even jungle conditions in other areas, China would face a hostile environment in addition to a hostile population.
Then Jim details the sobering assessment that China will likely attack within the next several years. He also shares how Taiwan’s lack of formal independence gives it a second-class status in several important ways – from the United Nations to being ignored by Interpol and the World Health Organization.
Finally, Jim reveals some of the intense and amusing sidelights, from being caught in an earthquake to the quirks of other journalists on the trip to his overt jealousy of the superior engineering of Taiwanese toilets.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome a stunningly good poll from NBC News showing American voters trusting Republicans far more than Democrats to do a good job on the economy – the biggest edge for the GOP on this issue in 32 years. And Jim breaks down why Americans are very sour on the economy despite the Biden administration insisting that it’s great. They also shudder at a Semafor report showing that Iran infiltrated the Obama and Biden administrations as well as the media to push for softer relations toward the mullahs in Iran and the pathetic Iran nuclear deal. Finally, they groan as two-thirds of Americans want to scrap the Electoral College and choose presidents based on the popular vote, and they are especially irked at the 47 percent of Republicans who say they want that. Plus, they explain the wisdom shown by our founding fathers in creating the Electoral College.
