The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign

June 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign” on Spreaker.

Election Day 2024 is more than 16 months away, but the first Republican debate is less than two months away and voters in the first primary and caucus states will be casting their ballots in just a few months. Today, Jim and Greg examine the state of the campaign in three different ways.
First, they look at the Democratic primary. While President Biden has a commanding lead over Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson, the enthusiasm – even among Democrats – is very low for another four years of Biden. Will the Democrats stick with Biden regardless of his approval numbers and mounting evidence of physical and mental decline?
Then they pivot to the Republican primary, where former President Trump has opened a big lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both nationally and increasingly in the states. Is the GOP base loyalty towards Trump locked in and virtually irreversible or is there an avenue for DeSantis or anyone else to close the gap.
Finally, they preview a likely Biden-Trump rematch and consider how much the electorate has changed in the past few years. Will Biden’s poor performance be enough of a boost for Trump or will Trump’s focus on 2020 and his legal challenges lead to another four years for Biden?

June 29, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Affirmative Action Struck Down, Airline Nightmare, Biden Student Loan Can-Kicking” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for good, bad, and crazy martinis. First they applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to deem Affirmative Action unconstitutional in college admissions. They then blast the FAA, the airlines, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for air travel turning into a miserable experience this summer. Finally, they discuss the recent Biden administration decision to provide a “safety net” for borrowers as student loan payments resume for the first time since the COVID pandemic hit.

June 28, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Biden Whistleblower Accusations, EVs Cost Ford Billions, Another Biden Gaffe” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for good, bad, and crazy martinis. First they react to IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley’s allegations of interference by the DOJ regarding the Hunter Biden investigation, and being blocked entirely from investigating Joe Biden. They then discuss the recent report from Ford Motor Company that it expects to lose $3 billion in operating profit on electric vehicles. Finally, they laugh and cringe at President Biden saying Russian President Vladimir Putin, “is clearly losing the war in Iraq.”

Timestamps:

6:20 – Ford Motor Company Loss on Electric Vehicles
11:57 – EVs are heavier, tires wear faster, and beware the “mileage tax”

Americans Back Taiwan, Michigan Attacks Free Speech, Media’s Biden Smokescreen

June 27, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Americans Back Taiwan, Michigan Attacks Free Speech, Media’s Biden Smokescreen” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for a full course of good, bad, and crazy martinis. First they react to a new Rasmussen Reports poll revealing that most Americans support Taiwan’s independence, and discuss how it clashes with the recently soft stances of the Biden Administration towards the Chinese Communist Party. They then critique a new bill in Michigan that would jail people for up to five years if their speech makes someone “feel threatened”. Finally, they comment on the media distracting from the Biden corruption scandal by suggesting the “real lesson” is Joe Biden’s unconditional love for his son through Hunter’s battles with addiction.

Press Corps Wakes Up, Pelosi Wants SCOTUS Term Limits, Garland’s Pathetic Defense

June 26, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Press Corps Wakes Up, Pelosi Wants SCOTUS Term Limits, Garland’s Pathetic Defense” on Spreaker.

Jim Geraghty is back! After a brief discussion about the confusing Russian coup, Jim and Greg dive into three domestic issues today. First, they’re happy to see the White House press corps – even some of the usually compliant members – demanding answers about President Biden’s apparent involvement in Hunter Biden’s business deals after Biden repeatedly insisted he knew nothing about them. They also roll their eyes as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has been in Congress for more than 36 years, calls for term limits for Supreme Court justices. Finally, they push back hard after Attorney General Merrick Garland suggests any accusation of political favoritism coming from the Justice Department is “an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy.” Jim shreds Garland for suggesting criticism of the DOJ is somehow out of bounds, when it’s one of our most basic rights and freedoms.

Politics & Road Repair, DOJ Impeded Hunter Probe, Freedoms vs. ‘The Common Good’

June 23, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Politics & Road Repair, DOJ Impeded Hunter Probe, Freedoms vs. ‘The Common Good'” on Spreaker.

Ricochet.com Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim, who will be back on Monday. Join Jon and Greg as they applaud the rapid reopening of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia and note how quickly some projects get done when there is strong political incentive to get it done. They also fume as IRS whistleblowers tell Congress that the Justice Department repeatedly meddled in the Hunter Biden investigation by tipping off Hunter’s lawyers at times, forbidding the U.S. attorney from opening multiple investigations, and discouraging the investigation of incriminating messages. Finally, they shudder at the the legislative push in Ireland to “restrict freedom for the common good,” which is always the argument for the government stealing our liberties and giving itself more power.

Seeking Sanity in Sports, Dems Going Soft on Venezuela, A Hurd of GOP Hopefuls

June 22, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Seeking Sanity in Sports, Dems Going Soft on Venezuela, A Hurd of GOP Hopefuls” on Spreaker.

Ricochet.com Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today. Join Jon and Greg as they break down Senate hearings on whether biological men who identify as women should be permitted to participate in women’s sports – and the absurd notion from the left that there really is no difference between them when it comes to athletics. They also roll their eyes as a group of House Democrats asks the Biden administration to ease sanctions on Venezuela in order to help the beleaguered Venezuelan people, as if the people would see an ounce of benefit compared to the corrupt communists running the country. Finally, they groan as former Texas Rep. Will Hurd joins a very crowded Republican presidential field with no chance to win but with a very good chance of accomplishing the one thing he doesn’t want to happen.

Durham’s Dire Warning, Crime-Ridden Cities, Pandemic Learning Loss Persists

June 21, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Durham’s Dire Warning, Crime-Ridden Cities, Pandemic Learning Loss Persists” on Spreaker.

Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today. Join Jon and Greg as they welcome Special Counsel John Durham’s congressional testimony about the FBI’s deeply flawed Crossfire Hurricane investigation and how the Bureau used information it knew was false to obtain FISA warrants on Trump campaign figures. They also appreciate Durham saying that a few cosmetic policy changes at the FBI won’t solve anything, and that there needs to be much more accountability there – especially at the higher levels. They also cringe as the latest Washington, D.C. crime statistics show a big increase over last year and as Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson prioritizes taxpayer-funded housing for illegal immigrants over addressing the Windy City’s huge crime problem. Finally, they sigh as the latest testing shows 13-year-olds declined markedly in math and reading skills compared to testing done before the pandemic.

Hunter’s Pleas, DeSantis’ Judges, Social Media Menace, Arson Activism

June 20, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Hunter’s Pleas, DeSantis’ Judges, Social Media Menace, Arson Activism” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim today. Join Scot and Greg as they give you four martinis for the price of three. First, they react to Hunter Biden’s plea deal on gun and tax charges. They then get a good laugh as the left criticizes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for appointing conservative judges to the Florida Supreme Court. They lament the new University of Michigan report claiming that social media has caused a massive spike in self-reported depression symptoms among teens. Finally, they conclude with the story of a climate activist and Democrat donor’s arson on a California forest, destroying 127 homes and displacing thousands of people.

Massive COVID Fraud, Gas Stove Doublespeak, High-Speed Rail Delusion

June 19, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Massive COVID Fraud, Gas Stove Doublespeak, High-Speed Rail Delusion” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim today. Join Scott and Greg for one bad and two crazy martinis. After Scott shares his story of an All-American weekend, they are frustrated and unsurprised at the $403 billion in taxpayer-funded COVID relief that was lost to fraud and government waste. They then react to the mixed messages on gas stove bans, where the left continues to reassure Americans they will not be banned, while many municipalities have already begun their restrictions. Finally, they roll their eyes at the left’s obsession with high-speed rail, pointing out that the projects constantly cost much more than expected, and deliver lackluster results.
