NY Court Nixes Non-Citizen Voting, America’s Massive Political Divide, Government-Run Groceries?

March 20, 2025 by GregC

Listen to “NY Court Nixes Non-Citizen Voting, America’s Massive Political Divide, Government-Run Groceries?” on Spreaker.

Undisputed King of Stuff and Sink the Rising Sun author Jon Gabriel fills in for Jim today. Join Jon and Greg as they discuss New York’s top court striking down non-citizen voting, the widening political divide between men and women—especially by education level—and a New York City mayoral candidate pushing for government-run grocery stores.

First, they welcome the New York Court of Appeals decision to strike down a New York City law that allowed non-citizens to vote in local elections. They emphasize the importance of restricting voting to citizens and warn of the risks posed by non-citizen participation. Jon also explains why similar efforts have failed to gain traction in his state of Arizona.

Next, they analyze NBC News polling that reveals a stark divide in political views between men and women, particularly between non-college-educated men and college-educated women. Jon explores why college-educated women have shifted so far left and shares insights from his college-age daughters and their peers about how they view politics and what ideas they are encountering on campus.

Finally, they critique New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s proposal for government-run grocery stores with artificially low prices. They explain why it’s bad economics and point to the Soviet Union as a glaring example of why this approach cannot work and always ends in misery.

Tragedy Over the Potomac, Trump Boosts School Choice, Detroit Mayor Finds the Right Enemies

January 30, 2025 by GregC

Listen to “Tragedy Over the Potomac, Trump Boosts School Choice, Detroit Mayor Finds the Right Enemies” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim in this episode of the 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they discuss the tragic midair collision between an airliner and a military helicopter over the Potomac River, President Trump’s new executive order on school choice, and how the far left’s attacks on Detroit’s mayor might end up helping him get elected governor.

First, they discuss the deadly crash between a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter and a commercial airliner near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Tragically, all 64 passengers and crew aboard the plane, as well as all three soldiers on the helicopter, lost their lives. Scot and Greg explore the details of the disaster, try to resist jumping to conclusions, and reflect on the bravery of the first responders who worked tirelessly in search of survivors.

Next, they dive into President Trump’s newly signed executive order aimed at expanding school choice across the nation. This executive order directs various cabinet departments to provide grants to states, empowering parents with the financial means to send their children to schools of their choice. Scot and Greg discuss how this order increases educational freedom for families but also whether this movement might come with some unintended consequences.

Finally, Scot and Greg consider Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s response to attacks from far-left groups over his use of the term “illegal immigrants.” Duggan, who says he welcomes immigrants while cooperating with federal authorities on illegal immigration enforcement, is defending his words and actions. Duggan is also running as an independent for Governor of Michigan in 2026, and Scot says this absurd criticism can only help Duggan’s campaign.

ABC’s Trump Defamation Settlement, Dueling Drone Explanations, Trump & Big Labor

December 16, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “ABC’s Trump Defamation Settlement, Dueling Drone Explanations, Trump & Big Labor” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for 3 Martini Lunch as they react to ABC News agreeing to pay Donald Trump $16 million to settle his defamation lawsuit. They also discuss the many conflicting conclusions about the mysterious drones over New Jersey and analyze how Trump seems to be getting even closer to Big Labor.

First, Jim and Greg have some fun at the expense of ABC News and George Stephanopoulos after the network agrees to pay $16 million to settle Trump’s defamation lawsuit. The case stems from Stephanopoulos’ misrepresentation of the verdict in the E. Jean Carroll case. Jim highlights how Stephanopoulos has never fully distanced himself from his past as a Democratic operative while working in a prominent news role at ABC.

Next, Jim and Greg dive into the many conflicting theories about the drones spotted over New Jersey. Experts seem very confident in their explanations, but they can’t agree on what’s really happening in the skies. Jim breaks down the most plausible theories and offers his insights into which explanations seem the most far-fetched.

Finally, Jim and Greg discuss Trump’s public support for the International Longshoremen’s Association in its push against automation in U.S. ports. While they hate to see anyone lose their job, they argue that refusing to use modern technology to make ports more efficient is counterproductive. The hosts also question whether Trump’s stance is a political move to reward union support or a sign that he and the GOP are abandoning the Right to Work to align with Big Labor.

Harris Picks Walz, Why Markets Are Volatile, Why You Shouldn’t Panic

August 6, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Harris Picks Walz, Why Markets Are Volatile, Why You Shouldn’t Panic” on Spreaker.

Brian Wesbury, Chief Economist at First Trust LP and the former Chief Economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, is in for Jim. Today, Brian and Greg dissect Kamala Harris choosing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate and why it may be a gift to the GOP. Brian also explains why the markets are in turmoil right now, why you shouldn’t panic over it, and more.

First, they respond to the breaking news that Harris-Walz will be the ticket for Democrats in 2024. They explain why this is the furthest left ticket in recent memory and why it gives Donald Trump and JD Vance ample opportunities to expose how far out of the mainstream Harris and Walz really are. And they discuss the Walz record in Minnesota – from his disastrous handling of the 2020 riots to his far left economic and social positions.

Next, Brian goes through the factors leading to the major volatility in world markets over the past several days. He says we are largely paying the price for terrible policies enacted during the Covid pandemic and he says the “morphine” is finally wearing off. But there are other important factors as well, and Brian tells us why he thinks the U.S. is headed into a recession but nothing close to a 2008-level crisis.

Finally, Brian explains why investors should not panic during this market turmoil and what the smartest government response would be.

The Truth About Inflation, Al Gore Wants to Ban News Algorithms, White House Hanukkah Blunders

December 12, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The Truth About Inflation, Al Gore Wants to Ban News Algorithms, White House Hanukkah Blunders” on Spreaker.

It’s bad and crazy martinis today after a Monday full of good news.

Join Jim and Greg as they wince over CNBC’s Rick Santelli offering a painful much much-needed explanation of compounding inflation – far from the White House narrative that Biden has it under control. He doesn’t.

They also roll their eyes as Al Gore takes a reasonable concern – social media pushing questionable posts to the top of your feed due to the level of engagement – and makes the absurd argument that these posts are damaging to democracy, are the “digital equivalent of the AR-15” and ought to be banned.

Finally, they cringe as the Biden administration fails to reply to family members of remaining hostages in Gaza who asked to attend the lighting of the White House menorah. Meanwhile, the husband of Vice President Harris completely butchers his explanation of Hanukkah.

Biden’s Inflation Reality Check, Joe Wilts Under Leftist Pressure, Education Sec. Flunks Reagan 101

November 28, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Biden’s Inflation Reality Check, Joe Wilts Under Leftist Pressure, Education Sec. Flunks Reagan 101” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they wince at a new Bloomberg reports showing how much more Americans are paying for food, electricity, water, rent, childcare, and much more. But the report is an important rebuttal to the Biden administration’s gaslighting that the inflation problem has been solved.

They also groan at reports that just one day after Biden reasonably said he does not trust casualty figures from Hamas, the president buckled under criticism from Muslim leaders, said he was ashamed of himself and promised to do better.

Finally, they have some fun as Education Sec. Miguel Cardona appears to quote President Reagan unironically as having said he was from the government and was here to help. Of course, that’s exactly the opposite of what Reagan said.

Latest Trump Indictment, U.S. Debt Downgraded, Empty Federal Offices

August 2, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Latest Trump Indictment, U.S. Debt Downgraded, Empty Federal Offices” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they react to the four-count indictment of Donald Trump alleging he defrauded the nation and conspired against rights and official government proceedings. They also cringe as Fitch downgrades U.S. debt from a AAA rating to AA+ due to our growing debt, the lack of a plan to deal with it, and intense political infighting. Finally, they throw up their hands as a new government report shows the vast majority of agency headquarters in D.C. remain empty – but you pay for them anyway.
Timestamps:
0:06 – Trump indicted again – this time they are connected to January 6th and efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
7:23 – Fitch downgrades U.S. debt from AAA to AA+.
12:29 – Massive amounts of government office space in D.C. remains unused.

Massive COVID Fraud, Gas Stove Doublespeak, High-Speed Rail Delusion

June 19, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Massive COVID Fraud, Gas Stove Doublespeak, High-Speed Rail Delusion” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram is in for Jim today. Join Scott and Greg for one bad and two crazy martinis. After Scott shares his story of an All-American weekend, they are frustrated and unsurprised at the $403 billion in taxpayer-funded COVID relief that was lost to fraud and government waste. They then react to the mixed messages on gas stove bans, where the left continues to reassure Americans they will not be banned, while many municipalities have already begun their restrictions. Finally, they roll their eyes at the left’s obsession with high-speed rail, pointing out that the projects constantly cost much more than expected, and deliver lackluster results.

And They Wonder Why We Don’t Trust Government

February 22, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “And They Wonder Why We Don’t Trust Government” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they give credit to the New York Times for admitting that mask mandates accomplished nothing, either for individuals or larger communities. It did lead to lot of angry confrontations, and apparently our government officials have learned nothing. They also discuss the growing media attention to the toxic train accident in Ohio and how government response to a crisis is often proportional to the amount of media coverage a story gets. Finally, they hammer the Defense Department and the Air Force for releasing the confidential military files of Republican lawmakers and candidates to opposition research firms working with Democrats.

Fighting for Freedom, Skyrocketing Rent, Olympic Disgrace

February 18, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Fighting for Freedom, Skyrocketing Rent, Olympic Disgrace” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they hope the American right’s support for the Canadian Freedom Convoy will refocus the GOP on championing freedom in this year’s midterms and far beyond. They also shudder as Americans in major cities are seeing 30-40 percent increases in rent but also explain how short-sighted government policies are a major contributing factor. And they discuss the ratings bust of the Beijing Winter Olympics and how Russia and the International Olympic Committee have disgraced the games to a dangerous level.
