Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and longtime Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today as he and Greg enjoy a fantastic good martini, an infuriating bad one, and more media insanity.
First, Jon and Greg sit back and relish Texas Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt savaging the Democrats’ talking points that requiring voters to present a photo ID to vote is somehow racist, discriminatory, or burdensome. Rep. Hunt effectively and cleverly refers to his own experience as a black man in procuring photo ID’s and the proof in Georgia that secure elections don’t equal voter suppression.
Then, they unload on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for castigating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from the Senate floor, with Schumer labeling Netanyahu an “obstacle to peace” and demanding new elections in Israel. And while he demands new elections and a change in Israeli leadership, Schumer assures us that the U.S. would never, ever interfere in those elections.
Finally, they react with horror to the gang-fueled anarchy unfolding in Haiti and the humanitarian crisis that seems headed our way. But they also pause to note the insanity of NBC News blasting “right wing influencers” for pointing out some of these gangs have a history of cannibalism – rather than criticizing the gangs themselves.

It’s media day in our year-end Three Martini Lunch awards and Jim and Greg have plenty to say about how things were covered – if they were covered at all. Specifically, they look at the stories the mainstream media covered far too much, the ones they conveniently ignored because they didn’t fit their narrative, and they highlight what they saw as the best stories of 2023.
First, they dig into the most overreported stories of the year, with Jim choosing a specific angle of a story he thought was given far too much attention and Greg going with the non-stop chattering about a completely pointless topic.
Then it’s on to the stories the media didn’t cover much or didn’t want to cover. Jim points to media apathy concerning what may well be the greatest threat to American national security. Greg picks a horrifying tragedy that the media quickly stopped caring about when it reflected poorly on the left.
Finally, they reveal their selections for best stories of the year. Jim goes with a bright spot in an otherwise bleak story he covered closely this year. Greg opts for a member of Congress going above and beyond in a crisis – again.
Make sure to listen on Friday as Greg and Jim unveil their selections for Person of the Year and Turncoat of the Year. Plus, their predictions for 2024.
Thanks for listening to the 3 Martini Lunch!

Listen to “2023 Martini Awards Part 4: Best Idea, Worst Idea, Boldest Tactic” on Spreaker.
More year-end awards today! Jim and Greg embark on the second half of their six-episode series of the 3 Three Martini Lunch Awards. Today, they offer up their selections for the Best Political Idea, Worst Political Idea, and Boldest Political Tactics for the year.
They start with the best ideas of the year. Jim chooses an event that actually happened late last year but the true impact of it has been felt far and wide in 2023. Meanwhile, Greg’s award goes to a critical policy movement that made significant progress this year.
Then it’s time for the worst political ideas of the year, with both Jim and Greg finding so many terrible ideas that they both have multiple winners with no overlapping. Jim focuses on three terrible and simply wrong ideas pursued by the Biden administration on the international stage. Whereas, Greg highlights United Nations advocacy of a truly terrible idea that should horrify every parent. And he cites a governor’s effort to blatantly defy the Constitution.
Finally, they’re on to boldest political tactics for 2023, with neither of them agreeing with the tactics they chose to honor. Jim starts with a move made in the 2024 presidential campaign that was widely unpopular but has undoubtedly worked well. And Greg points to am aggressive and disruptive move on Capitol Hill.
Don’t miss Thursday’s special edition as Jim and Greg reveal their choices for Most Overreported Story, Most Underreported Story, and the Best Story of 2023.

Join Jim and Greg as they return from Thanksgiving break with good, mixed, and crazy martinis. First, they cheer the U.S. Navy for ending a Houthi assault on an Israeli-linked ship off the coast of Yemen and then taking the pirates into custody.
They’re also thrilled that some women and children held hostage by Hamas are now home but they are wary of the growing pressure for Israel’s military pause to continue, which is a big advantage for Hamas.
Finally, they examine the mysterious car explosion at the U.S.-Canada border last week, early reports of terrorism, and the media’s habit of dropping a story when the narrative suddenly changes.

Join Jim and Greg as they discuss today’s planned vote for Speaker of the House as Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan seems very close to having the votes to win – but he might not quite be there yet. Will it be resolved today? They’re also puzzled by the surprisingly little coverage of the hundreds of hostages taken by Hamas – some of them American. Normally, the media would have wall-to-wall coverage of something like that. Finally, they react to President Biden’s comments over the weekend about no one needing “a weapon with 100 rounds in the chamber.” In addition to not knowing how guns work, his timing on the gun control push is especially bad.

Jim and Greg devote today’s podcast to three critical aspects of the horrific terrorist attacks perpetrated in Israel by Hamas over the weekend the worst mass murder of Jews since World War II. First, they chronicle the unconscionable acts of terrorism, torture, rape, and abduction by Hamas – and how the only proper description of the actions is pure evil.
Then they walk through the Biden’s administration’s refusal to confirm Iran was intimately involved in the planning of the attacks even after Hamas and others admit that’s exactly what happened. They also detail how weakness projected by the Biden administration in Afghanistan and in its constant groveling before Tehran to strike a new nuclear agreement likely emboldened Iran.
But they also note that there will likely be significant political consequences in Israel over the failure to prevent or detect the attacks.
Finally, they fume over the very predictable responses from some politicians, media figures, and activists blaming Israel for the carnage or at least creating a moral equivalence between the terrorism and the Israeli military response.

Listen to “Media’s Border Malpractice, Dissecting the GOP Debate, Where’s Gov. Hobbs?” on Spreaker.
Join Jim and Greg for debate reaction and a whole lot more today. Before serving up the martinis, they’re glad to see the U.S. Senate unanimously returning to the previous dress code expected on the Senate floor. Then, they cheer Alabama Sen. Katie Britt for calling out the media for their lack of interest in the horrific reality faced by countless women and children as they illegally come to America. From repeated rapes to drownings to staying indebted to the cartels after arriving, Sen. Britt says it’s a far cry from the American Dream. Then they dissect the second GOP debate held Wednesday night at the Reagan Library in California – from the strongest moments to the chaotic crosstalk to some extremely lame jokes. Finally, they express frustration as Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs hands over power for a few hours but never tells the public why she’s doing it.

Listen to “Dems’ 2024 Dilemma, Ceiling Fan Wars, Biden’s Media Enablers” on Spreaker.
Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim. Today, Jon and Greg examine new polls showing more than three-quarters of Americans and nearly 70 percent of Democrats think Joe Biden is too old to be president for another four years. So do the Dems roll the dice on Biden anyway and hope Trump is even less popular? Do they push Biden out ad gamble on Kamala Harris? Or do they find someone else entirely? They also groan as the Biden Energy Department demands changes to make ceiling fans more energy efficient. But the laughably minimal energy savings will be dwarfed by the $86.6 million per year that manufacturers will need to spend to comply with the new rules. Finally, they cringe as the Biden administration clearly plants a question with compliant reporter about COVID and both the reporter and Biden make the ruse painfully obvious. Finally, they remember Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” whom the media went after with full venom because he dared to challenge Barack Obama about tax policies during the 2008 campaign.
Timestamps:
1:03 – Overwhelming majority of Americans think Biden is too old for another term.
8:58 – Biden administration’s war on ceiling fans
15:44 – Media’s pathetic enabling of Biden
19:04 – Remembering “Joe the Plumber” and the media’s horrific treatment of him.

Join Jim and Greg for a full course of good, bad, and crazy martinis. First they react to a new Rasmussen Reports poll revealing that most Americans support Taiwan’s independence, and discuss how it clashes with the recently soft stances of the Biden Administration towards the Chinese Communist Party. They then critique a new bill in Michigan that would jail people for up to five years if their speech makes someone “feel threatened”. Finally, they comment on the media distracting from the Biden corruption scandal by suggesting the “real lesson” is Joe Biden’s unconditional love for his son through Hunter’s battles with addiction.
