Today, Jim and Greg discuss the most compelling and important moments from the Republican National Convention Tuesday evening, President Biden’s pandering to the hard left, and U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s unsatisfying interview about the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
First, they review convention speeches from former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, as Haley sought to unite the party and DeSantis took a blowtorch to Biden and his record. They also highlight Madeline Brame’s impassioned speech soft-on-crime policies of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and other far left prosecutors. Jim believes that Nikki Haley’s speech may turn out to be the most impactful in the coming election in moving the needle for Trump skeptics.
Next, they shake their heads as Biden scrambles to save his campaign by appealing to hardline progressives with promises of federal rent control in a gaffe-filled speech. Jim is bewildered at why Democrats are pushing so hard to make him the nominee, seemingly terrified of a delegate fight this late in the election cycle.
Finally, they put the spotlight on an interview that Director Cheatle did with ABC News, which raised more questions than it answered about how the shooter gained access to the roof of a building just 400 feet from Trump. They hope to see investigations and hearings that hold the Secret Service to greater accountability, but are resigned to the fact that Cheatle will not be stepping down and probably won’t be fired.

Join Jim and Greg as they discuss more campus crackdowns, how the left really offers little besides destruction, President Biden condemning illegal protests only after they’ve finally been dealt with, and whether Trump and other Republicans might actually have a shot at winning in Nevada this year.
First, they welcome California authorities ending the trespassing protests at UCLA and they also get a kick out of these agitators demonizing the University of California system as being a product of colonialism. They also notice that these “encampments” are all coming down around the same time. Coincidence?
Next, they largely agree with President Biden’s comments on Thursday defending the right to protest peacefully but denouncing demonstrators who trespass, vandalize, and threaten other people. But where was this a week or two ago? Why does the statement only come now as the protests end?
Finally, they dig into Nevada polling numbers and wonder whether Donald Trump can be the first GOP nominee to win the state in 20 years or whether the Silver State will prove to be fool’s gold for Republicans yet again.

Join Jim and Greg as they cheer the end of the anti-Israel encampment at Columbia while relishing the leftist insanity on open display. Plus, Jim fumes over the federal government’s persistent failures to help families determine financial aid for college, and President Biden considers accepting “refugees” from Gaza.
First, they they cheer the NYPD for declaring the occupation of a Columbia University academic building to be a riot and arresting dozens of trespassing radicals. But they also get a lot of laughs out of the demonstrators’ earlier, convoluted demands that the university provide or allow “humanitarian aid” – meaning food and water – as they illegally controlled the building.
Next, Jim sounds off as the U.S. Department of Education failed repeatedly to allow high school seniors to file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms in a timely manner and are now delaying critical financial aid information. The website was unusable for months after it was promised to be functioning and one major glitch was not fixed until yesterday. They also discuss how this is yet another area in which the federal government has no business being in charge and makes life much tougher for Americans.
Finally, they fume as President Biden reportedly considers allowing refugees from Gaza to enter the United States, even though no Middle East country is willing to take in these people and the vast majority of people in Gaza hate the United States.

Join Jim and Greg today as they chronicle South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem murdering her chances to become Trump’s running mate, why the FBI’s claims of falling crime rates are seriously flawed, and the media praising President Biden for preserving a free press when his actions suggest exactly the opposite.
First, they dig into the four-day firestorm of criticism against South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, after it was revealed in her forthcoming autobiography that years ago she shot a 14-month-old dog when it failed as a hunting dog. They’re also critical of Noem and hope this development takes her out of the running for the GOP vice presidential nomination since her previous personal and policy decisions already ought to disqualify her.
Next, they groan as the FBI fails to get an accurate picture of crime rates across the nation by forcing local police to enter data in such a cumbersome way that some big cities don’t enter crime statistics at all. And even in the cities where authorities do submit crime numbers, the FBI is still reporting lower numbers than local officials are announcing. Bottom line: the left’s narrative that crime is plummeting (allegedly to 50-year lows) is dead wrong.
Finally, they roll their eyes as NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell lavishes praise on President Biden, saying his mere presence at the White House Correspondents Dinner is a strong defense of free speech and a free press. The Biden’s administration’s track record tells a very different story.

On Thursday, we learned that O.J. Simpson died after a battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. In the mid-1990’s, his murder trial dominated news coverage and divided a nation. Today, Jim and Greg look back, but not as a trip down memory lane. Instead, it’s about understanding why this was such a massive story and the impact that the O.J. saga still has on our nation today.
Younger Americans may know him only as an accused murderer, if they remember him at all. If you’re a bit older, you remember the star athlete, actor, and football commentator who was beloved throughout the nation. It’s a fall from grace that Jim and Greg chronicle to explain just how stunning it was that Simpson was accused of murdering ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman.
From there, Jim and Greg dig into the legal and media circus that played out in the murder trial, on the news, in late night television and beyond. The story engulfed our culture in ways that we still feel today – and not for the better.
Finally, they examine the legacy of O.J. at his death – nearly 30 years after he was accused of two savage murders.

Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and longtime Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today. Jon and Greg tackle one good martini and two crazy ones to close the week.
First, they cheer Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin for his veto binge on many bills passed by Democrats out of the legislature (although he should have vetoed more). In addition to nixing a minimum wage hike and numerous gun control measures, Youngkin also rejected legislation to legalize marijuana dispensaries. And Jon and Greg have plenty to say in support of Youngkin slamming the brakes on pot shops.
Next, they highlight the stunning hypocrisy by New York City Councilwoman Amanda Farias, who is lamenting that more men won’t step in to protect women from attackers in the city. But just last year, she publicly denounced Daniel Penny, the ex-Marine who subdued a man on the subway after making many menacing threats to other passengers. What did Farias think would happen when people doing the right thing get prosecuted?
Finally, while Jon and Greg highly endorse reading the Bible, they cringe as Donald Trump endorses Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA Bible and the website proudly proclaims that it’s the only Bible endorsed by Trump.

Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim. Andy & Greg tackle thorny issues from securing the border to banning TikTok to people losing their homes to squatters.
First, they react to the whiplash of the U.S. Supreme Court initially staying the Texas legislation allowing the state to arrest and deport illegal aliens, then allowing the law to into effect, and now an appellate court putting it on hold again due to another challenge. Andy explains why the legal gears grind slowly and why the issue should not ideally be decided by the courts.
Next, they dig into legislation that would ban “foreign adversary-controlled applications.” The immediate goal is to ban TikTok or force its parent company to sever ties with the Chinese Communist Party. The app is Chinese spyware and also fills the minds of young people with poisonous ideas. But is the current legislation the best vehicle to make that happen or does it potentially threaten the speech rights of American citizens?
Finally, they explore the horrifying trend of homeowners finding squatters living in their houses. The squatters have no lease or any other legal justification to be there but the laws in New York and other places make it extremely difficult for property owners to have the intruders removed.

Join Jim and Greg for three big new martinis!
First, they slam French President Emmanuel Macron for publicly refusing to rule out sending troops to Ukraine. But they were glad to see the U.S., Great Britain, and Germany immediately shoot down the notion that such a move was on the table..
Then, they dig into a Washington Free Beacon story about how the border crisis is overwhelming a small, fairly progressive community in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The city is scrambling for money after services for migrants put it in a $400,000 budget bind. Meanwhile, drug activity and STD’s are on the rise. And this is happening in plenty of other communities in this country.
Finally, they scratch their heads as President Biden told reporters that he thinks an Israel-Hamas ceasefire will be in place this weekend. Yet the Israelis, Hamas, and Qatar all publicly say there hasn’t been much progress at all on any of the major issues that need to be addressed before a pause in fighting can happen,
