The 2024 Campaign: Trump vs. Biden or Are We in for A Surprise?

October 2, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The 2024 Campaign: Trump vs. Biden or Are We in for A Surprise?” on Spreaker.

As Greg heads off on vacation, he and Jim break down the current state of the 2024 presidential campaign for Republicans and Democrats. Does Trump have a stranglehold on the GOP nomination despite big negatives with the general electorate and four major legal fights looming next year? And do his leads in some polls against President Biden undercut the DeSantis argument that he is the better bet next year?

They also dissect where the Democrats stand. Biden has a massive lead among Democrats but his polling is terrible, especially on the economy. Will Democrats roll the dice and stick with Biden in hopes Trump is even more unpopular? Will they move on to Vice President Harris, whom very few in the party seem to have any confidence in? Or will Gov. Gavin Newsom or some other Democrat emerge the worse Biden’s health and poll numbers get?

Finally, they consider the Senate map for 2024, where Republicans could gain seats, where they risk wasting more good opportunities, and much more.

Sen. Feinstein Dies, The Looming Shutdown, Trump’s Absurd Debate Demand

September 29, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Sen. Feinstein Dies, The Looming Shutdown, Trump’s Absurd Debate Demand” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they react to the news of California Sen. Dianne Feinstein dying at the age of 90 after years of health issues. They walk through Feinstein’s career, point out her reliable liberal votes and her moments of collegiality with Republicans and hostility to GOP judicial nominees. Finally, they reflect on her decision to stay in office as her health problems mounted but also remember one moment that gave conservatives a smile. In other news, Jim and Greg consider the looming government shutdown as the fiscal year comes to a close and the House Republicans, who missed their opportunity to be in a much stronger negotiating position against Senate Democrats and President Biden. Finally, they slam former President Trump’s suggestion that the Republican National Committee should just cancel the rest of the primary debates and move on to helping him with the general election.

Dem AG vs. Dem Governor, House Impeachment Inquiry, Wall Street & China

September 13, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Dem AG vs. Dem Governor, House Impeachment Inquiry, Wall Street & China” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome the news that New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez, a Democrat, is refusing to defend Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham’s unconstitutional “health emergency” that forbids carrying guns in public for 30 days. They also react to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy calling for the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry against President Biden. They explain how the effort is warranted given the growing evidence but Jim argues that the current investigations would likely be more impactful than a formal inquiry. And they dive into what this decision and timing say about McCarthy and his grip on power. Finally, they applaud the House Select Committee on the CCP for taking Wall Street entities to task for investing in Chinese firms that present a direct threat to U.S. national security and human rights. The committee is working in strong bipartisan fashion, but will anything concrete and enforceable come out of all this work?

Bipartisan Push on China, FBI & Catholics, Lake Likely to Run

August 10, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Bipartisan Push on China, FBI & Catholics, Lake Likely to Run” on Spreaker.

Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim. Before the martinis, Jon and Greg discuss the heartbreaking devastation in Lahaina caused by the wildfires on Maui. Then they are pleasantly surprised to see Republicans and Democrats working together to get to the bottom of the threat that Communist China poses to our nation and digging into many critical issues that other politicians seem content to ignore. They also fume as the House Judiciary Committee uncovers evidence that FBI Director Christopher Wray lied to lawmakers about the extent of FBI monitoring of Catholic churches. Wray says only one field office was engaged in such tactics but now we know there were at least three. Finally, they react to the news that Kari Lake is planning to run for U.S. Senate in Arizona. Jon, who is based in Arizona, explains why he suspects Lake will win the nomination but lose the general election and why Sen. Kyrsten Sinema may benefit the most if Lake gets in the race.

Timestamps:

0:40 – Horrific fire damage devastates Lahaina on Maui

2:20 – GOP & Dems working well together to examine the extent of the China threat in the U.S.

7:13 – House Judiciary Committee demands answers from FBI Director Christopher Wray now that three FBI field offices were involved in scrutinizing conservative Catholics.

Hunter’s Deal ‘Null and Void,’ The DeSantis Reboot, Congress & UFO’s

July 26, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Hunter’s Deal ‘Null and Void,’ The DeSantis Reboot, Congress & UFO’s” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they react to the breaking news that Hunter Biden’s plea deal on tax and gun charges is “null and void” after this morning’s arraignment in federal court. And Jim dissects revelations that we do know some buyers of the Hunter Biden art and why it emits a foul odor. They also discuss the reboot of the DeSantis campaign and whether there is any way for DeSantis (or anyone else) to chip away at the loyalty to Donald Trump within the GOP base. Finally, they drop in on today’s House hearings on UFO’s and Jim wonders whether the government is preparing to reveal something staggering to the public, even if it has nothing to do with aliens.

July 20, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Biden’s Lie Exposed, NYC Settles with Protesters, Taxpayers Fleeced for Lavish Trip” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they react to a House Democrat who tried to defend President Biden during a key congressional hearing but actually ended up exposing yet another Biden lie. They also sigh as New York City agrees to pay 2020 demonstrators more than $13 million for alleged police mistreatment of protesters. Finally, they shake their heads as local Virginia officials soaked taxpayers with a $60,000 tab so they could fly in luxury to Ghana and stay at an expensive resort under the premise of establishing a sister city relationship there.

You Ask, We Answer Part 1

July 3, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “You Ask, We Answer Part 1” on Spreaker.

Some of our favorite episodes are the ones where you ask Jim and Greg questions and they offer their takes on politics, sports, pop culture or whatever else is on your mind.
Today, they analyze why people with no chance of being elected president decide to run for the office anyway and respond to a listener who wants the people to have a say on who Jim and Greg label as the poster child for generic Republicans.
They also take on a question about how to tame the administrative state and stop unelected government bureaucrats from making rules and de facto laws. Would it help to adopt a constitutional amendment explaining that power rests only in Congress?
And of course there’s a question about “Die Hard.” Specifically, should this epic film ever be rebooted, and if so, who should direct it and star in it?

Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril

May 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they sort through the agreement between House Republicans and the Biden administration to avoid default. Jim explains why he sees the deal as about as good as the GOP could do with the limited leverage it has. And they address complaints from many conservatives that the plan allows too much baseline spending and didn’t accomplish some major goals. They also react to the European Union’s demands that Twitter abide by its “disinformation” policies or risk getting banned from Europe later this summer. Finally, they discuss the FDA approval of human trials for Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implants and highlight the potential for amazing breakthroughs and disastrous unforeseen consequences.

The DeSantis Rollout, Biden Will Get Debt Blame, IRS Targets Taibbi

May 25, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The DeSantis Rollout, Biden Will Get Debt Blame, IRS Targets Taibbi” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they walk through the good, bad, and crazy aspects of the presidential campaign launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – from the glitchy start on Twitter Spaces to his strong articulation of a conservative vision for the nation to the obvious grifting of Trump critics who are aiming their venom primarily at DeSantis. They’re also pleasantly surprised by a new Fox News poll showing more Americans would blame President Biden than congressional Republicans for defaulting on our debt. Finally, they fume at the very shaky premise for the IRS going to the home of Twitter Files reporter Matt Taibbi on the day he testified to Congress about government efforts to silence free speech – and the very shady way the IRS initiated it’s investigation.

Great Scott! Public Backs Work for Gov’t Aid, Constitutional Debt Showdown

May 22, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Great Scott! Public Backs Work for Gov’t Aid, Constitutional Debt Showdown” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they offer up two good martinis and a crazy one. First, they welcome South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott into the 2024 GOP presidential race, highlighting his good policy ideas and his happy warrior approach to politics. They also cheer a new poll showing Americans overwhelmingly supporting work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP recipients. Finally, Jim lays out the strong case for why President Biden raising the debt ceiling without approval from Congress would be grossly unconstitutional.
