Kerry’s D-Day Cringe, GOP Gas Stove Drama, Burgum for President?

June 7, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Kerry’s D-Day Cringe, GOP Gas Stove Drama, Burgum for President?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for a full course of crazy martinis. They start off shocked at Biden climate envoy John Kerry contending the climate change crisis is our generation’s D-Day during a speech in Norway. Then they mull over the recent debt ceiling fight among House Republicans and the Freedom Caucus disrupting a bill that would protect gas stoves from the Biden administration’regulations. They conclude by discussing the longshot presidential bid by North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and what it may mean for the Republican primary field.

Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril

May 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they sort through the agreement between House Republicans and the Biden administration to avoid default. Jim explains why he sees the deal as about as good as the GOP could do with the limited leverage it has. And they address complaints from many conservatives that the plan allows too much baseline spending and didn’t accomplish some major goals. They also react to the European Union’s demands that Twitter abide by its “disinformation” policies or risk getting banned from Europe later this summer. Finally, they discuss the FDA approval of human trials for Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implants and highlight the potential for amazing breakthroughs and disastrous unforeseen consequences.

Biden Ready to Deal? Victory for Life in NC, China Touts AI Success

May 17, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Biden Ready to Deal? Victory for Life in NC, China Touts AI Success” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they serve up two good martinis and an ominous one. First, they’re glad to to see President Biden move away from no discussion of reforms in exchange for an increase in the debt ceiling and agree to budget negotiations over the coming days. They also applaud Republicans in the North Carolina legislature for staying unanimous to override Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of a 12-week abortion ban. Finally, they react to news that China aloowed artificial intelligence to control a satellite and make decisions about what it would do. How fast is AI growing? Can we rein it in? And if we do, will our adversaries have a major advantage?

McCarthy’s Energy Focus, Marianne’s Temper, Barney Frank Gets A Pass

March 17, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “McCarthy’s Energy Focus, Marianne’s Temper, Barney Frank Gets A Pass” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome the House GOP effort to reinvigorate the American energy sector. But they know getting it into law is going to be very difficult. They also react to the Politico report alleging Marianne Williamson is a terror as a boss and routinely flew off the handle and berated staff during her 2020 campaign. Does this matter much in a Democratic primary that’s expected to be a blowout? And did this story arise organically or the Biden team decide to nuke Williamson before she even gets started? Finally, Jim explains how former Rep. Barney Frank would be the villain of the recent bank collapse scandal if he were a Republican. But he’s a Democrat so the media flogging will probably never come.

McCarthy Rejects Schiff & Swalwell, Santos Plays Victim, Pence’s Classified Papers

January 25, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “McCarthy Rejects Schiff & Swalwell, Santos Plays Victim, Pence’s Classified Papers” on Spreaker.

Jim and Greg discuss House Speaker Kevin McCarthy rejecting Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell for the House Intelligence Committee, with Jim explaining why the move is good politics and good policy. They also groan as Rep. George Santos criticizes comedians and other politicians for making fun of his serial mendacity. And as former Vice President Mike Pence admits having classified documents, they wonder just how many of our top officials are careless with sensitive materials.

We Have A Speaker, Dems Feud Over Migrants, Biden the Moderate?

January 9, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “We Have A Speaker, Dems Feud Over Migrants, Biden the Moderate?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they are not only glad there is a Speaker of the House but that the deal got done because Rep. Chip Roy and others demanded a more conservative rules package – that hopefully can pass. They also enjoy watching Mayors Lori Lightfoot of Chicago and Eric Adams of New York City feuding with fellow Democrat Gov. Jared Polis over Polis sending migrants to their cities. And they do a double take at the news President Biden plans to run for re-election as a moderate.

Speaker Wars, Feds Suppressing Speech, DeSantis Shines

January 4, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Speaker Wars, Feds Suppressing Speech, DeSantis Shines” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they weigh in the second day of House Republicans at odds over whether Kevin McCarthy should be Speaker of the House. What is the end game of the McCarthy opponents? Will they force a more conservative speaker or will we get one that’s worse? They also thank Elon Musk and Matt Taibbi for exposing more details of how the FBI and other government entities aggressively pushed Twitter to suspend many accounts from 2017 forward. Are we not at a clear First Amendment issue on this story? And they applaud Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for his inaugural address that articulates a conservative vision on many issues quite well.

House GOP Chaos, Media Bury Times Square Attack, Short-Sighted Climate Logic

January 3, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “House GOP Chaos, Media Bury Times Square Attack, Short-Sighted Climate Logic” on Spreaker.

Happy New Year! Jim and Greg are back to their usual format but kick off the year with three crazy martinis after discussing the cardiac arrest of Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin Monday night. They dig into the chaos within the House GOP conference as Kevin McCarthy fails to win enough votes to become Speaker of the House on the first ballot. They also wince as the Islamic extremist who attacked police with a machete in Times Square on New Year’s Eve was on the FBI’s radar. And they hammer the media for burying the story once the motive was known. Finally, they roll their eyes as a New York Times column argues people need to be looking for shorter mates so they can have shorter children who will be less of a strain on our planet.

DeSantis vs. Apple, Biden’s Haiti Problem, Will McCarthy Have the Votes?

November 30, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “DeSantis vs. Apple, Biden’s Haiti Problem, Will McCarthy Have the Votes?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they cheer Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for blasting Apple’s nauseating practices of silencing American voices it disagrees with and groveling before the Chinese government by making it harder for protesters there to get their messages out. They also groan as the crisis in Haiti is on the brink of collapse and the Biden administration fails to get other nations to take the lead on the response. And they discuss whether Kevin McCarthy will have the 218 votes needed to become speaker after at least two GOP members say they won’t back him on the House floor come January.
