GOP Senate Prospects, Cable News Debate Drama, Lightfoot Fails Upward

June 2, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “GOP Senate Prospects, Cable News Debate Drama, Lightfoot Fails Upward” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they’re intrigued about possible GOP Senate campaigns from Rep. Mike Gallagher in Wisconsin and baseball great Steve Garvey in California. They also cast a wary eye on CNN and MSNBC drooling at the chance to host Republican presidential debates because they may get major fireworks between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. And given their constant anti-GOP content and their past performances in Republican debates, there’s plenty of reason for skepticism. Finally, they roll their eyes as failed former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot lands a prime teaching gig at Harvard University with a focus on leadership.

Senate’s Student Loan Rebuke, ‘No Plan’ on China, Hunter’s Absurd Defense

June 1, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Senate’s Student Loan Rebuke, ‘No Plan’ on China, Hunter’s Absurd Defense” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they cheer the likely Senate rejection of Biden’s student loan forgiveness scheme. They then recoil over how ill-prepared the U.S. and Great Britain are to counter China’s aggressive non-military tactics for achieving its goals against the U.S. Finally, they’re staggered as Hunter Biden is planning to fight any forthcoming charges for lying on a federal gun purchasing form by arguing the Second Amendment should allow drug users to own firearms.

They also chronicle the tumultuous Twitter wars between the Trump and DeSantis campaigns as the primary season ramps up. Finally, they sigh as Chris Christie plans to announce his campaign for president next week, and they consider what impact he might have on the debate stage and beyond.

Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril

May 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Debt Ceiling Deal, EU vs. Twitter, Neuralink’s Promise vs. Peril” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they sort through the agreement between House Republicans and the Biden administration to avoid default. Jim explains why he sees the deal as about as good as the GOP could do with the limited leverage it has. And they address complaints from many conservatives that the plan allows too much baseline spending and didn’t accomplish some major goals. They also react to the European Union’s demands that Twitter abide by its “disinformation” policies or risk getting banned from Europe later this summer. Finally, they discuss the FDA approval of human trials for Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implants and highlight the potential for amazing breakthroughs and disastrous unforeseen consequences.

GOP’s Strong Messaging, Mastriano Won’t Run, Pentagon Clueless on AI Threat

May 26, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “GOP’s Strong Messaging, Mastriano Won’t Run, Pentagon Clueless on AI Threat” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they close out the week with two good martinis and a very bad one. First, they remain very pleasantly surprised at how strong the House GOP messaging has been throughout the debt ceiling debate – to the point where even much of the mainstream media is admitting it. They also breathe a sigh of relief as Doug Mastriano decided not to run for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania after getting crushed in the governor’s race last year. Finally, they shudder as Democratic Massachusetts Rep, Seth Moulton sounds the alarm that the Pentagon has “no direction whatsoever” in confronting the role of artificial intelligence in the militaries of our adversaries and he says we don’t have very long to prepare.

The DeSantis Rollout, Biden Will Get Debt Blame, IRS Targets Taibbi

May 25, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The DeSantis Rollout, Biden Will Get Debt Blame, IRS Targets Taibbi” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they walk through the good, bad, and crazy aspects of the presidential campaign launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – from the glitchy start on Twitter Spaces to his strong articulation of a conservative vision for the nation to the obvious grifting of Trump critics who are aiming their venom primarily at DeSantis. They’re also pleasantly surprised by a new Fox News poll showing more Americans would blame President Biden than congressional Republicans for defaulting on our debt. Finally, they fume at the very shaky premise for the IRS going to the home of Twitter Files reporter Matt Taibbi on the day he testified to Congress about government efforts to silence free speech – and the very shady way the IRS initiated it’s investigation.

Another House GOP Win, Behar Lectures Scott on Race, DeSantis & Twitter

May 24, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Another House GOP Win, Behar Lectures Scott on Race, DeSantis & Twitter” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they are impressed at the ability of the House GOP to pass legislation with a slim majority – this time overturning an EPA rule on big truck emissions. They also discuss Joy Behar of “The View” accusing Tim Scott and Clarence Thomas of “not getting it” when it comes to being black in America. Finally, they react to Ron DeSantis breaking tradition and deciding to announce his presidential bid on Twitter.

All-American Chips, Youngkin Reconsiders 2024, Fetterman’s Dubious Recovery

May 23, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “All-American Chips, Youngkin Reconsiders 2024, Fetterman’s Dubious Recovery” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they applaud the news that Apple is striking a major deal with Broadcom to make hi-tech chips here in the U.S. They also react to reports that Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin may be reconsidering a 2024 presidential bid and become a late entry in the GOP field after this year’s elections. Finally, they cast a skeptical eye on reports that wearing hoodies and shorts is a clear sign that Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is recovering well from his recent depression but do welcome reports from other lawmakers that he seems to be doing better.

Great Scott! Public Backs Work for Gov’t Aid, Constitutional Debt Showdown

May 22, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Great Scott! Public Backs Work for Gov’t Aid, Constitutional Debt Showdown” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they offer up two good martinis and a crazy one. First, they welcome South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott into the 2024 GOP presidential race, highlighting his good policy ideas and his happy warrior approach to politics. They also cheer a new poll showing Americans overwhelmingly supporting work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP recipients. Finally, Jim lays out the strong case for why President Biden raising the debt ceiling without approval from Congress would be grossly unconstitutional.
