The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign

June 30, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign” on Spreaker.

Election Day 2024 is more than 16 months away, but the first Republican debate is less than two months away and voters in the first primary and caucus states will be casting their ballots in just a few months. Today, Jim and Greg examine the state of the campaign in three different ways.
First, they look at the Democratic primary. While President Biden has a commanding lead over Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson, the enthusiasm – even among Democrats – is very low for another four years of Biden. Will the Democrats stick with Biden regardless of his approval numbers and mounting evidence of physical and mental decline?
Then they pivot to the Republican primary, where former President Trump has opened a big lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both nationally and increasingly in the states. Is the GOP base loyalty towards Trump locked in and virtually irreversible or is there an avenue for DeSantis or anyone else to close the gap.
Finally, they preview a likely Biden-Trump rematch and consider how much the electorate has changed in the past few years. Will Biden’s poor performance be enough of a boost for Trump or will Trump’s focus on 2020 and his legal challenges lead to another four years for Biden?

House GOP on Offense, Major DeSantis Momentum, Florida’s Desperate Dems

May 9, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “House GOP on Offense, Major DeSantis Momentum, Florida’s Desperate Dems” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they bring you two good martinis along with a crazy one that’s also pretty good. First, they applaud the House GOP and National Republican Congressional Committee for being on offense during the debt ceiling fight and having more effective messaging on this issues than any time in recent memory. They also take note of the long list of legislative victories that Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida lawmakers piled up this year, and how it will serve as a springboard into a DeSantis White House bid. Finally, they get a kick out of some Florida Dems trying to recruit former NBA stars Grant Hill and Dwyane Wade into running for U.S. Senate next year.

Biden’s Sinking Polls, Dems Defending TikTok, Sinema’s Curious Strategy

March 23, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Biden’s Sinking Polls, Dems Defending TikTok, Sinema’s Curious Strategy” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome a new Associated Press poll showing Americans can clearly see President Biden’s weak performance on the economy and his overall job performance. They also groan as the CEO of TikTok tries to dodge questions about whether the app is spying on users and TikTok’s connection to the Chinese Communist Party. Plus, they hammer the Democrats for glibly opposing the effort to crack down on TikTok after agreeing to ban it on government devices last year. Finally, they break down Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s strategy of cozying up to the right in advance of a likely 2024 re-election bid.

The Ukraine Divide, GOP Embraces Earmarks, RNC Fight Intensifies

December 22, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “The Ukraine Divide, GOP Embraces Earmarks, RNC Fight Intensifies” on Spreaker.

Jim and Greg wade into the sharp debate on the right over how to approach Ukraine, Zelensky, and their war against Russia. Their biggest frustration is the accusations being lobbed from both sides at anyone who shows the slightest bit of nuance on the issue. They also hammer Republicans for going along with tons of earmarks in the new omnibus bill – wasting countless more taxpayer dollars on frivolous projects. And they react to the Florida GOP pushing for the ouster of Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel and wonder why so many RNC committee members are so loyal to a leader with a pretty dismal electoral record.

Trump Launches 2024 Bid, DeSantis Deflects Trump Attack, Polish Missile Scare

November 16, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Trump Launches 2024 Bid, DeSantis Deflects Trump Attack, Polish Missile Scare” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they assess Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign announcement. They also applaud how Gov. Ron DeSantis responded to Trump’s criticisms of him last week. And they breathe a sigh of relief that the deadly missile strike in Poland was not a deliberate Russian strike – or even a Russian missile at all.

GOP Projected to Win House, Leadership Fights, Does 2024 Start Tomorrow?

November 14, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “GOP Projected to Win House, Leadership Fights, Does 2024 Start Tomorrow?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they breathe a dejected sigh of relief as NBC News projects the Republicans will take control of the House by a very slim margin. They also brace for the GOP leadership wars as some conservatives seem ready to move on from Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy. And they suffer a wave of fatigue as President Trump reportedly prepares to kick off the 2024 presidential campaign tomorrow – even as the midterm vote counting continues in several states.

Good Debates for Republicans, Dealing with the Saudis and Mrs. Fetterman Works the Refs

October 18, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Good Debates for Republicans, Dealing with the Saudis and Mrs. Fetterman Works the Refs” on Spreaker.

Chad Benson is in for Greg Corombos again, and he joins Jim to discuss how Republicans have done well in the most recent round of high-profile debates in the midterm races; a cost-free proposal of how to send a clear signal to the Saudi Kingdom, and how Gisele Fetterman is “working the refs” in unprecedented ways, contending the media is picking on her disabled husband.

Red Wave Forming? Hobbs Keeps Ducking Debates, Fetterman’s Medical Cover-Up

October 14, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Red Wave Forming? Hobbs Keeps Ducking Debates, Fetterman’s Medical Cover-Up” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they eagerly welcome news that national Democrats are “retrenching” their financial strategy for keeping the House of Representatives, which is the fancy way of saying they are pulling money from races they no longer think they can win. On top of that, a major pollster says there is no doubt that Republican candidates are looking stronger and stronger over the past few weeks. They also discuss the bizarre decision by Arizona Democrat Katie Hobbs to refuse any debates with Republican Kari Lake, even as more polls show Lake winning. Finally, they defend NBC reporter Dasha Burns as Democrats and their media allies savage her for sharing her honest observations of how poorly Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman holds up in casual conversation. They also blast the Fetterman campaign for keeping his health records under lock and key and blasting any honest assessment of his health as “ableism.”

Improving GOP Senate Polls, Dems Ducking Debates, Anti-Capitalist Billionaires

September 16, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Improving GOP Senate Polls, Dems Ducking Debates, Anti-Capitalist Billionaires” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome better polling news for the likes of Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and and GOP hopefuls in the critical states of Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, and even Pennsylvania. They also notice the odd trend of Democrats like New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Washington Sen. Patty Murray refusing to debate their Republican opponents. And they may have sprained their eyeballs as the very rich Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard presents himself as a socialist who regrets becoming so wealthy and is now dedicated to saving the planet.
