McConnell Won’t Run Again, More Hamas Horrors, DOGE Cuts & ‘Malicious Compliance’

February 21, 2025 by GregC

Listen to “McConnell Won’t Run Again, More Hamas Horrors, DOGE Cuts & ‘Malicious Compliance'” on Spreaker.

Inez Stepman of the Independent Women’s Forum fills in for Jim on the 3 Martini Lunch podcast. Join Inez and Greg as they discuss Sen. Mitch McConnell announcing he won’t run again, the latest unspeakable atrocities committed by Hamas, and how federal agencies are making DOGE-related budget cuts painful for the public.

First, they analyze Mitch McConnell’s decision to retire after 42 years in the Senate and 18 years as GOP leader, and they assess his performance. They credit McConnell for defending free speech, blocking left-wing policies, and confirming conservative judicial nominees. However, they criticize his failure to address federal spending and his lack of progress on conservative priorities during Republican control of the Senate.

Next, Inez and Greg express their outrage over the latest atrocities perpetrated by Hamas, including a gruesome ceremony involving the return of hostages’ remains and reports detailing how the two young brothers who were brutally murdered. In addition,  the remains of their mother, Shiri Bibas, were excluded from the return to Israel. With Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing reprisals, Inez and Greg reflect on the critical details of the Bibas family’s abduction and the role of the Red Cross in facilitating the spectacle we saw this week.

Inez and Greg discuss government-run sites making DOGE-related budget cuts as painful as possible for visitors. They highlight three instances of “malicious compliance” and recall past government shutdown tactics used by Democrats to needlessly inconvenience the public.

Biden’s Actual Border Beliefs, Herridge Harassed Over Reporting Again, Senate GOP Leader Race Already Starting

March 1, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Biden’s Actual Border Beliefs, Herridge Harassed Over Reporting Again, Senate GOP Leader Race Already Starting” on Spreaker.

Jim and Greg serve up a clarifying good martini plus conventional bad and crazy ones to wind up the week.

First, they offer a timely reminder of Biden’s promises from 2020 on border security, sanctuary cities, and who ought to be deported. The comments explain why we saw the border crisis explode on his watch and suggest his recent get tough approach is only a political maneuver.

They also cringe as stellar national security reporter Catherine Herridge is ordered to pay fines of $800 per day for refusing to divulge her sources on a story connection a U.S.-based scientist with the Chinese Communist Party.

Finally, they groan in reaction to the race already beginning to replace Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, even though the conference elections aren’t until November, we have no idea how many Republicans will be in the Senate, and how many current ones will still be there.

McConnell’s Last Year as Leader, Newsom’s Shady Favoritism, Trump vs. Biden at the Border

February 29, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “McConnell’s Last Year as Leader, Newsom’s Shady Favoritism, Trump vs. Biden at the Border” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for three important martinis ranging from the U.S. Senate to the border to cronyism in politics.
First, they react to Sen. Mitch McConnell announcing this will be his final year as Senate Republican leader. They break down McConnell’s record on reshaping the U.S. Supreme Court by pushing through the nominations of Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett. They dig into his willingness to be the villain to protect other GOP members, but also the frustration conservatives have with his failure to fight harder for less spending and not being more aggressive on certain policy goals. And, of course, they preview the fight to replace McConnell as leader.
Then they document the shady exemption to California’s new law raising the minimum wage for fast food workers from $16 to $20 per hour for establishments that bake their own bread on site and sell it individually. This seems to be a specific carve out for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s friend and donor who owns a bunch of Panera franchises in the state.
Finally, they assess today’s dueling border visits from Biden and Trump, what we can glean by the different areas of the border they are visiting, and why Biden’s eagerness to reverse anything Trump did in office is coming back to bite him hardest at the border.

Putin Prefers Biden, Is U.S. Ammo Dependent on the Ukraine Bill? The War on Coffee Rages On

February 15, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Putin Prefers Biden, Is U.S. Ammo Dependent on the Ukraine Bill? The War on Coffee Rages On” on Spreaker.

Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and longtime Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today.

Today, Jon and Greg react to Russian President Vladimir Putin saying he prefers President Biden over former President Trump, calling Biden “more experienced and more predictable.” Trump calls it a compliment while Biden supporters say Putin is trying some reverse psychology.

They also recoil as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell tells National Review he doesn’t know how U.S. ammunition and ordnance will get replenished unless the Ukraine aid bill gets passed. Regardless of what anyone thinks of assistance for Ukraine, why in the world is our own national security dependent on this legislation?

Finally, Jon takes an extra shot of espresso as he flays the latest efforts to urge people to stay away from coffee. Last time, the fun police said coffee was harming the planet. Now they claim caffeine is dangerous to your health. Jon isn’t buying that for a second.

Geraghty Returns, Personal Debt Delinquency Soars, McConnell Freezes Again

August 31, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Geraghty Returns, Personal Debt Delinquency Soars, McConnell Freezes Again” on Spreaker.

Jim Geraghty is back! Today, Jim and Greg spend the good martini giving a short overview of Jim’s trip to Ukraine and what he learned there. Don’t miss Monday’s 3 Martini Lunch, when they devote their Labor Day episode to the good, bad, and crazy things that Jim observed in Ukraine. They also recoil as the percentages of Americans delinquent on credit card debt, auto loan debt, and and personal loan debt are at their highest levels in more than a decade. Finally, they react to another moment where Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell seems to freeze during a press conference, and Jim says McConnell’s team owes the American people a full, honest explanation of the senator’s health.

Judge Foils Hunter-DOJ Scheme, Mitch’s Scary Moment, DeSantis & RFK Jr.

July 27, 2023 by GregC

Listen to “Judge Foils Hunter-DOJ Scheme, Mitch’s Scary Moment, DeSantis & RFK Jr.” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they applaud Judge Maryellen Noreika for exposing the apparent agreement between the Justice Department and Hunter Biden that would have given Biden immunity on further prosecution related to his tax issues and business dealings. They also chronicle Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell being unable to speak on Capitol Hill Wednesday and are frustrated that his office won’t say anything beyond McConnell’s own insistence that he’s “fine.” Finally, Jim chides Gov. DeSantis for trying to win over RFK Jr. supporters and likely alienating people who would actually be inclined to vote for him.
Timestamps:
1:18 – The scuttled plea deal between the Justice Department and Hunter Biden stinks. Judge Noreika was right to question it.
8:12 – Sen. McConnell’s health scare and his office refusing to elaborate on what happened.
15:36 – Gov. DeSantis suggests he might “sic” RFK Jr. on the FDA or CDC if he’s president.

GOP Projected to Win House, Leadership Fights, Does 2024 Start Tomorrow?

November 14, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “GOP Projected to Win House, Leadership Fights, Does 2024 Start Tomorrow?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they breathe a dejected sigh of relief as NBC News projects the Republicans will take control of the House by a very slim margin. They also brace for the GOP leadership wars as some conservatives seem ready to move on from Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy. And they suffer a wave of fatigue as President Trump reportedly prepares to kick off the 2024 presidential campaign tomorrow – even as the midterm vote counting continues in several states.

Left Turning on Biden, Election Day Problems, Early GOP Infighting

November 8, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Left Turning on Biden, Election Day Problems, Early GOP Infighting” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they sit back and wait for election results tonight. First, they notice usually friendly media getting tougher on President Biden and suggesting another run in 2024 might not be a good idea. They also fume that voting in Maricopa County, Arizona, is suffering from malfunctioning tabulation machines and they find it completely unacceptable that it takes more than a couple days to count mail-in ballots regardless of how many there are. Finally, they groan as some Republicans struggle to keep their future ambitions under wraps until after the midterms – namely President Trump and Sen. Rick Scott.

Biden’s Demonizing Speech, GOP Senate Infighting, Who Wanted Schools Open?

September 2, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Biden’s Demonizing Speech, GOP Senate Infighting, Who Wanted Schools Open?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they unload on President Biden for his ugly, partisan speech accusing Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans” for endangering our nation and then quickly labeling them as radicals for holding longstanding GOP political positions. They also fume about Mitch McConnell and Rick Scott publicly feuding about the party’s struggles in trying to win back control of the U.S. Senate, and Jim takes us into what what Sen. Scott’s mindset may be in all of this. And they hammer the Biden administration for trying to gaslight the American people about which party wanted schools to open quickly during the pandemic and which side found every excuse in the book to keep them closed.

‘Red Wave of Cash,’ Fed Predicts More ‘Pain,’ FBI’s Election Meddling

August 26, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “‘Red Wave of Cash,’ Fed Predicts More ‘Pain,’ FBI’s Election Meddling” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they welcome the news that badly outspent GOP candidates are getting an infusion of $160 million from Mitch McConnell’s Super PAC for the final push to November. They also shudder as Fed Chairman Jerome Powell says he will be acting aggressively to rein in inflation but that many people will feel “pain” in the meantime. And they hammer the FBI after Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg tells Joe Rogan how the Bureau told Facebook to be on the lookout to confront expected Russian disinformation. That led Facebook to limit the reach of posts related to the Hunter Biden laptop story.
