Middle Class Shifting to GOP, Homan’s Chilling Terror Warning, Dems Positioning for 2028

June 3, 2025 by GregC

Listen to “Middle Class Shifting to GOP, Homan’s Chilling Terror Warning, Dems Positioning for 2028” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday edition of the 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect polls showing voters still trust Republicans more on the economy, shudder at Border Czar Tom Homan’s concern over major terrorist attacks in the U.S. due to Biden’s open borders, and size up the Democrats already dipping their toes into the water for 2028.

First, they highlight CNN’s Harry Enten reporting that Americans increasingly see Republicans as the party of the middle class and more trustworthy on economic issues. Enten appears frustrated by the trend, but Jim and Greg explain that the shift is no surprise—Democrats keep ignoring inflation, cost-of-living spikes, and pushing radical economic policies voters don’t want.

Next, they react to dire warnings from Border Czar Tom Homan, who says the Biden administration’s border failures have allowed two million “gotaways” into the country—migrants who deliberately avoided processing at the border. Homan warns it’s only a matter of time before some of these individuals commit a major terrorist attack inside the U.S.

Finally, they joke about the preemptive presidential campaigns begun by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. In recent appearances in South Carolina, Walz called Trump a “wannabe dictator” and urged supporters to bully Trump. Meanwhile, Gov. Moore inists he’s not running for president in 2028 but keeps doing events like this. His record as governor is also not that great. And they also discuss the indecision of Kamala Harris over running for governor of California next year.

Border Numbers Plunge, Oval Office Aftermath, Minimum Wage Madness

March 3, 2025 by GregC

Listen to “Border Crossings Plunge, Oval Office Aftermath, Minimum Wage Madness” on Spreaker.

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they analyze the stunning border numbers from February, the fiery Trump-Zelensky-Vance exchange in the Oval Office, and yet another example of how an excessively high minimum wage backfires on businesses and employees.

First, they break down the incredible news that just 8,326 people attempted to illegally cross the southern border in all of February—far below the daily figures often seen under the Biden administration. They explain how the shift in border policy sent a clear message to would-be

Next, they dissect Friday’s tense Oval Office exchange between President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Ukrainian President Zelensky. While major issues remain before a meaningful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war can take shape, Scot argues that Friday’s visit was primarily about finalizing the minerals deal as a stepping stone toward a broader agreement—something Zelensky mishandled. Greg outlines the key disagreements between the two sides but suggests the incident doesn’t have to derail U.S.-Ukraine relations. Meanwhile, Jim Geraghty, writing from overseas, strongly disagrees.

Finally, they discuss a new study confirming that California’s $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers has led to job losses, higher prices, and increased automation. It’s a predictable outcome that progressives continue to ignore despite clear economic realities.

School Choice Success, Biden’s Border Horrors, Huge Government Waste, Lefties Leaving Twitter

November 21, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “School Choice Success, Biden’s Border Horrors, Huge Government Waste, Lefties Leaving Twitter” on Spreaker.

Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and novelist Jon Gabriel guest-hosts for Jim on today’s 3 Martini Lunch. Jon and Greg serve up four martinis, tackling school choice in North Carolina in beyond, the unspeakable horrors stemming from our open borders, staggering government waste, and celebrities fleeing Twitter/X.

First, they commend North Carolina lawmakers for overriding the governor’s veto on school choice and expanding vouchers. Jon also highlights the positive impacts of similar policies in Arizona, debunking the teachers’ unions’ doomsday predictions.

Next, they dive into the horrifying consequences of open-border policies, including the tragic murder of Laken Riley by a criminal illegal alien. They also note the alarming numbers of immigrant children unaccounted for and vulnerable to sex trafficking.

Then, they shake their heads as the Pentagon fails its audit for the seventh year in a row and at the Pentagon official who insists that not knowing where the money ended up does not mean it was wasted. Can figures like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy rein in this fiscal chaos?

Finally, they laugh about left-wing celebrities leaving Twitter/X in dramatic fashion—only to discover that their alternative platforms are just as disappointing.

Dems Fret Over Early Vote, Absentee Ballot Insanity, Kamala’s Cop Out on Crime

November 4, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Dems Fret Over Early Vote, Absentee Ballot Insanity, Kamala’s Cop Out on Crime” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they get you ready for Election Day! Today, they discuss how Democrat operatives are reportedly worrying about the intensity of early voting among registered Republicans, a series of concerning stories about absentee ballots, and Kamala Harris dodging a simple question about a crime referendum in California.

First, after a quick update on “Doris” and “Diane,” they dig into reports that Democrats are worried about the much greater number of registered Republicans taking part in early voting. So are GOP voters just spreading their votes out over more days or will there still be a significant surge on Election Day too?

Next, they react to a disturbing number of stories Jim collected about absentee ballot issues for today’s Morning Jolt. From way too many ballots showing up at people’s residences to ballots being stolen out of mailboxes and thousands of requested ballots not showing up at all, Jim and Greg point out the potential for problems with mail-in voting and suggest that early voting is much more secure and should replace a lot of mail-in voting.

Finally, they shake their heads as Kamala Harris, in a rare press availability, refuses to say how she voted on California’s referendum on tougher penalties for repeat theft and drug offenders. Jim blasts Harris for suddenly going silent after presenting herself as this no-nonsense prosecutor for the entire campaign.

The VP Debate: Vance Shines, Walz Is Overmatched, Partisan CBS Moderators

October 2, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “The VP Debate: Vance Shines, Walz Is Overmatched, Partisan CBS Moderators” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they break down Tuesday’s vice presidential debate between Ohio Sen. JD Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. They explain why Vance dominated, why Walz failed to rise to the occasion, and how the CBS moderators stood out for all the wrong reasons.

First, they highlight Vance’s stellar performance, delivering strong, organized answers while keeping his criticism focused on Kamala Harris rather than Walz. His persuasive responses on the economy, immigration, and the Middle East were particularly effective, though there were a few moments where his answers could have been stronger.

Next, they critique Walz from his shaky start to his painful dodge on his lie about whether he was in China during the Tiananmen Square massacre in June 1989. He seemed to talk more about his record in Minnesota than defending Kamala’s performance as vice president. And they note his inadvertent stumble suggesting he was friends with school shooters. It was a slip of the tongue – but Republicans never get the benefit of the doubt when they flub a line.

Finally, they express frustration with CBS moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan. Both displayed bias, making comments critical of GOP positions and contradicting their promise not to fact-check. Brennan especially fumbled when she tried to cut off Vance as he corrected her on immigration facts.

Memoir Backlash Dogs Kristi Noem, FBI’s Flawed Crime Numbers, Media Fawn Over Biden

April 29, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Memoir Backlash Dogs Kristi Noem, FBI’s Flawed Crime Numbers, Media Fawn Over Biden” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg today as they chronicle South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem murdering her chances to become Trump’s running mate, why the FBI’s claims of falling crime rates are seriously flawed, and the media praising President Biden for preserving a free press when his actions suggest exactly the opposite.

First, they dig into the four-day firestorm of criticism against South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, after it was revealed in her forthcoming autobiography that years ago she shot a 14-month-old dog when it failed as a hunting dog. They’re also critical of Noem and hope this development takes her out of the running for the GOP vice presidential nomination since her previous personal and policy decisions already ought to disqualify her.

Next, they groan as the FBI fails to get an accurate picture of crime rates across the nation by forcing local police to enter data in such a cumbersome way that some big cities don’t enter crime statistics at all. And even in the cities where authorities do submit crime numbers, the FBI is still reporting lower numbers than local officials are announcing. Bottom line: the left’s narrative that crime is plummeting (allegedly to 50-year lows) is dead wrong.

Finally, they roll their eyes as NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell lavishes praise on President Biden, saying his mere presence at the White House Correspondents Dinner is a strong defense of free speech and a free press. The Biden’s administration’s track record tells a very different story.

Florida Squashes Squatters, Media Malpractice at CBS, Minimum Wage Reality Check, Remembering Lieberman

March 28, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Florida Squashes Squatters, Media Malpractice at CBS, Minimum Wage Reality Check, Remembering Lieberman” on Spreaker.

Undisputed King of Stuff, columnist, and longtime Ricochet Editor-in-Chief Jon Gabriel is in for Jim today. Jon and Greg tackle good, bad, and crazy martinis and remember the late Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman.
First, they cheer Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state legislature for enacting anti-squatting legislation to provide protections for private property owners and swift law enforcement removal of people illegally occupying homes.
Next, they hammer CBS News reporter Ed O’Keefe and new Guatemalan Pres. Bernardo Arevalo for blatantly misrepresenting Donald Trump’s comments on migrants and absurdly suggesting people have a fundamental right to come to the U.S. O’Keefe also suggests migrants’ lives might be in danger in the U.S. if Trump wins in November.
They also highlight the painfully predictable results of California raising the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 per hour.
Finally, they offer a toast to longtime Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, who was the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee in 2000 and, just as significantly, a guest on 3 Martini Lunch in 2022.

Breaking Down Biden’s State of the Union

March 8, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “Breaking Down Biden’s State of the Union” on Spreaker.

We’ve had all good martinis and all crazy martinis this week. So it makes sense that Jim and Greg close the week with all bad martinis as they assess President Biden’s State of the Union address and the Republican response.
First, they note that Biden responded to criticism that he often comes off as low energy and mentally meandering by showing up angry, talking quickly, and turning the speech into more of a convention address than what the event is supposed to be. But Jim says if the Biden team was trying to invigorate the left-wing base, it may have helped him politically. They also highlight his inappropriate trash talking of the Supreme Court and his fiction over deficit spending.
Then, they take aim at Biden’s ill-conceived idea of building a pier on or near the Gaza coast to bring in humanitarian relief. And while Biden says there will be no American “boots on the ground,” if they’re anywhere close, this is a very bad idea. Jim also asserts that this move is simply Biden’s efforts to win back Muslim voters in Michigan.
Finally, they’re less than thrilled with the GOP performance on Thursday. They discuss the excellent content in the official response from Alabama Sen. Katie Britt but debate whether the emotional delivery was effective. Moreover, given the late start to the Biden speech, Jim suspects the nation’s opinion of the Republicans will be based more on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s disruptions of Biden than the actual response.

UN Confirms Hamas Rapes, Biden Flew Illegals Into U.S., Saving Democracy By Strangling It

March 5, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “UN Confirms Hamas Rapes, Biden Flew Illegals Into U.S., Saving Democracy By Strangling It” on Spreaker.

After a lovely day of all good martinis, there’s plenty of bad and crazy for Jim and Greg today. And even the good martini is not pleasant.

First, the welcome the United Nations confirming what we all saw on October 7th last year – that Hamas used rape and other sexual assault as weapons of war. However, the UN also concluded that Hamas is still likely using these heinous tactics against the hostages.

Next, a two-part bad martini highlighting President Biden’s dereliction at the border and new evidence that his administration deliberately and actively flew illegals into the country. They dissect a Daily Mail report detailing how the administration admits, through a Freedom of Information request, that it flew hundreds of thousands of people (with no legal right to enter our nation) to 43 different airports in the U.S. during 2023 alone.

But they also point out a recent segment on “60 Minutes,” in which former Customs and Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz says he never had a conversation with President Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris during his two years on the job from 2021-2023.

Finally, Jim and Greg unload on figures at the Lincoln Project and The Bulwark for their unhinged rhetoric aimed at No Labels, the group looking for a third party candidate to run for president this year. Reporting from Byron York quotes Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project saying No Labels needed to be “burned to the (expletive deleted) ground politically.” Jonathan Last of The Bulwark publicly said anyone affiliated with No Labels should “have their lives ruined,” including losing their jobs and much more.

NATO Allies Reject Troops in Ukraine, Border Crisis & A Small Town, Biden vs. Reality on Ceasefire

February 28, 2024 by GregC

Listen to “NATO Allies Reject Troops in Ukraine, Border Crisis & A Small Town, Biden vs. Reality on Ceasefire” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg for three big new martinis!

First, they slam French President Emmanuel Macron for publicly refusing to rule out sending troops to Ukraine. But they were glad to see the U.S., Great Britain, and Germany immediately shoot down the notion that such a move was on the table..

Then, they dig into a Washington Free Beacon story about how the border crisis is overwhelming a small, fairly progressive community in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The city is scrambling for money after services for migrants put it in a $400,000 budget bind. Meanwhile, drug activity and STD’s are on the rise. And this is happening in plenty of other communities in this country.

Finally, they scratch their heads as President Biden told reporters that he thinks an Israel-Hamas ceasefire will be in place this weekend. Yet the Israelis, Hamas, and Qatar all publicly say there hasn’t been much progress at all on any of the major issues that need to be addressed before a pause in fighting can happen,
