In 2006, an Israeli Defense Forces soldier was abducted by Hamas. Five years later, Israel has agreed to release over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners (many of them terrorists) in exchange for that soldier. Why is Israel making this deal now? Will this just invite more attacks on Israeli soldiers? How do Egypt, Turkey and even Fatah factor into this? And what other development lends more weight to the belief that Egypt became much more radical with the ousting of Hosni Mubarak? We discuss it all with Clifford May, president of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.
