Sex-trafficked children are the third largest criminal commodity in the United States. Only illegal drugs and guns are more prolific. In the first installment of our Essence of Evil series, we examined the scope of the child sex trafficking, the horrors endured by the victims, and how this became a big business.

Here in part two of our series, we examine how children – mostly girls – are lured by predators and traffickers, how they are groomed for life as a victim, and why there are so many people in the U.S. willing to pay to have sex with kids.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and while child abuse sadly takes on many forms, one of the areas of greatest concern is sexual abuse, including child sex trafficking.

Beulah’s Place founder Andi Buerger literally suffered from sex trafficking her entire childhood – from when she was six months old until she was seventeen years old. Her immediate family were often the perpetrators. Today, Buerger runs a home for adult teen women with the goal of keeping them away from traffickers and others predators and pointing them on the right path in life.

In this powerful interview, Buerger details the abuse she suffered, how “God intervened” to turn her life around and the changes she’s seeing in the young women she serves. Buerger also explains how sex trafficking is happening in virtually every community in the U.S. and often right under our noses. She offers tips on how to spot a possible abusive relationship and what to do when you suspect illegal activity but cannot prove it.

Kraft Case, Sex Trafficking Not Victimless Crimes

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is expected to be charged with solicitation of a sex act at a Florida massage parlor, and the story highlights once again the scourge of sex trafficking in the United States.

Kraft was identified, along with many other people, as part of a prostitution and sex trafficking investigation. He denies the allegations.

Several libertarian voices suggest there ought to be no crime here because it was a transaction between two consenting adults. Kevin Malone disagrees. The longtime Major League Baseball executive is president of the board of the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking.

“Anyone who says they’re two consenting adults is truly an idiot and doesn’t understand – particularly in this situation with Robert Kraft – the women at these massage parlors were there against their will. They were actually sex slaves being sold out of the massage parlor,” said Malone.

He says many of the females involved are 17 years or younger and therefore cannot consent. In addition, Malone believes few adult women participate in sex trafficking voluntarily. He says they get caught up in it as girls and then feel that continuing in prostitution is their only option.

Malone says that up to 70 percent of sex trafficking is online, so while parents are right to keep their kids close by when out in public, the even greater threat is who they might be communicating with online. He also says sex traffickers are known to strike up friendships with kids in public rather than abducting them right away. They build trust with the kids to lure them into intimate relationships and eventually prostitution.

He urges parents to keep a very close eye on their kids’ internet activities.

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America are glad to see reports that North Korea is prepared to release three U.S. prisoners, but they’re still cautious about why Kim Jong-Un is suddenly so eager to find common ground. They also shake their heads as Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani reveals that President Trump did reimburse Michael Cohen for his $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, although he claims Trump didn’t know what the reimbursement was for. And they react to the New York Times story alleging the Washington Redskins took passports away from cheerleaders on a trip to Costa Rica, allowed male sponsors and suite holders to watch the cheerleaders in various states of undress on the photo shoot, and assigned some of them to serve as escorts for the sponsors.
