Nashville Nightmare, James Shaw’s Heroism, Corker’s Pathetic Endorsement

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America recoil at the horror of four people killed in a Tennessee mass shooting, but the shock turns to anger at the news that authorities took away the shooter’s guns last year, left them with his dad under orders to keep the guns locked up, but the dad gave the weapons back to the shooter.  At the same time, they marvel at the heroism of James Shaw, Jr., who attacked and disarmed the shooter without any weapons of his own.  And they discuss Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker’s “endorsement” of Marsha Blackburn in the race to replace him – in what might be the most pathetic endorsement we’ve ever seen.

Bob Corker will not become “the Brett Favre of politics” as the senator confirms he will honor his initial decision not to run for re-election this year.  They also discuss efforts by House Democrats to ban every semi-automatic firearm that has a detachable magazine and every one that can hold more than ten rounds, with Jim detailing the random, uninformed approach Democrats appear to be taking on this issue.  They have some fun with the news actress Stacey Dash and former MSNBC hothead Dylan Ratigan are running for Congress.  And they pay tribute to National Review Founder William F. Buckley, Jr. ten years after his death.

Trump’s Infrastructure Approach, Media Fawn Over North Korea, CNN & Corker

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America are leery in general that any infrastructure bill can avoid becoming a huge waste of money but they are glad to see President Trump asking states to play a major role in funding the plan.  They also unload on the mainstream media for writing glowing reviews of Kim Jong-Un’s sister and how she is supposedly executing a diplomatic masterpiece at the Olympics.  And they rip the press for falling for the supposedly charming North Korean cheer squad, when they’re really slaves of a regime that will punish them and their families if they make any mistakes.  And they roll their eyes at CNN for reporting that Sen. Bob Corker is thinking about reconsidering his retirement, even as Corker’s office says there is nothing to the story.

Reporter Actually Meets Red State Voters, Trump vs. Corker, Math is Racist

David French of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America applaud former NPR CEO Ken Stern for taking the time to meet voters in red states and realizing they are nothing like the caricature offered by the mainstream media.  They’re also exasperated as President Trump and Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker resume their public feud and accomplish nothing other than choke momentum for tax reform and tax cuts.  And they react with disgust to a University of Illinois professor who argues that proficiency in algebra and geometry perpetuates unearned white privilege and that “mathematics itself operates as Whiteness.”

Corker’s Lame Legacy, Price is Wrong, Trump’s Alabama Two-Step

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America react to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker deciding not to seek re-election by remembering his most significant moment in office was failing to stand up for the Senate’s power to consider treaties and instead greased the skids for President Obama to enact the Iran nuclear deal without any effective protest from the Republican majority.  They also slam Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price for using private planes on at least two dozen occasions to the tune of $400,000 in taxpayer money.  And they weigh in on the results of the Republican U.S. Senate run-off in Alabama and President Trump subsequently deleting tweets in support of Luther Strange after it was clear Roy Moore had won.
