July 22, 2021 by GregC

Listen to “Infrastructure Roadblock, Pelosi’s Political Games, Biden’s Bumbling Lies” on Spreaker.

Alexandra Desanctis Marr is in for Jim today.  Alexandra and Greg cheer Senate Republicans for blocking the Democrats’ very expensive “infrastructure” bill, which doesn’t even exist yet. They also slam House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for further politicizing the committee tasked with investigating the Capitol Hill riot by rejecting two GOP members. And they scratch their heads after President Biden’s latest town hall is filled with false statements and incoherent moments.

Harris Heading South, Biden Rants on Gun Control, China’s Climate Cover-Up

June 24, 2021 by GregC

Listen to “Harris Heading South, Biden Rants on Gun Control, China’s Climate Cover-Up” on Spreaker.

Jim & Greg are glad to see VP Kamala Harris finally deciding to visit the border amid mounting pressure from Donald Trump, conservatives, and some in the media. They also cringe at President Biden’s dishonest attempts to justify gun control and saying that anyone wanting to resist the government would need F-15s and nukes. Finally, they discuss China covering up their climate abuses by paying off American media outlets and nonprofits.

Teacher Union Insanity, Biden’s Gun Grab, Racist Dem Senators

March 24, 2021 by GregC

Listen to “Teacher Union Insanity, Biden’s Gun Grab, Racist Dem Senators” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they unload on teachers’ unions for rejecting CDC guidelines for schools and demanding even more money from taxpayers as they refuse to embrace in-person learning. They also rebuke President Biden for immediately demanding gun control legislation in the wake of mass shootings. They also welcome Sen. Joe Manchin’s opposition to such legislation but are cautious since Manchin could go wobbly at any moment on any issue. And they also have quite a bit to say after  Senators Tammy Duckworth and Mazie Hirono briefly vowing not to confirm any future Biden nominees unless they are minorities or gay.

Del. Freitas: Dem Control in Virginia Means Less Freedom, Higher Taxes

January 8, 2020 by GregC

Listen to “Del. Freitas: Dem Control in Virginia Means Less Freedom, Higher Taxes” on Spreaker.

As of Wednesday, Democrats now control the governor’s office and both chambers of General Assembly in Virginia, and the new majorities are promising an aggressive progressive agenda over the next couple of months.

Democrats plan to pursue legislation on gun control, abortion, the environment, the Equal Rights Amendment, the minimum wage and many other issues.

In this podcast, GOP Del. Nick Freitas tells Greg Corombos about the legislative and legal battles to come, the areas where he thinks he can find common ground with Democrats.

And as Freitas pursues a congressional bid, he explains how the Democratic agenda in Virginia is a preview for what Democrats in Washington would pursue if they win the House, Senate, and White House in 2020.

Gun Control, Sanctuaries and the Second Amendment: Inside Virginia’s Big Political Battle

December 5, 2019 by GregC

Listen to “Gun Control, Sanctuaries and the Second Amendment: Inside Virginia’s Big Political Battle” on Spreaker.

On Nov. 5, Democrats won majorities in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly. Democrats officially take control in January but party leaders are already rolling out an aggressive gun control agenda.

In addition to the usual legislative goals of universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on semi-automatic”assault style” rifles, legislation put forth by the incoming Senate majority leader would make it illegal to possess guns that were purchased legally but subsequently banned by his bill.

In response, dozens of counties and other Virginia localities are adopting sanctuary policies, effectively announcing their sheriffs will not enforce any laws they believe to be in violation of the second amendment.

So what are the Democrats proposing exactly? Do the counties have the right to defy state laws? And will Virginia Democrats likely end up passing aggressive gun control legislation or something less severe.

Listen to the full podcast as Greg Corombos discusses all of this and more with Bearing Arms Editor-in-Chief Cam Edwards.

Gun Owners Explain Opposition to Gun Control Agenda

August 8, 2019 by GregC

Listen to “Gun Owners Explain Opposition to Gun Control Agenda” on Spreaker.

In wake of three horrific mass shootings, demands for gun control legislation are intensifying. Supporters of the movement insist universal background checks, assault weapons ban, red flag laws, and other measures will reduce the odds for more atrocities like we witnessed over the weekend in El Paso and Dayton.

But while you might not know it from watching and reading mainstream media sources, there is another side of this debate.  Second amendment groups like Gun Owners of America are pushing back vigorously across the board, starting with the push for the Senate to take up the House bill on universal background checks.

Gun Owners of America Legislative Counsel Mike Hammond says the House bill infringes far more on personal liberties than its supporters would have Americans believe.

“The legislation which the House passed is completely screwy.  It’s a trap which could basically enmesh any gun owner,” said Hammond.

He says the most innocuous activity could make you a hardened criminal under the House bill.

“If you show your gun to your neighbor in your dining room and then go into the next room to go to the bathroom, you’re a felon.  If you sell your gun to your kid for one dollar, you’re a felon.  If you take someone shooting and the person doesn’t have a hunting license, you’re a felon.

“The bill has a whole lot of deliberate provisions in it to make if very, very difficult to own a firearm in America,” said Hammond.

President Trump has not indicated support for that particular bill but he has said in recent days that he is open to expanded background checks.  Hammond says it’s hard to read Trump’s commitment to the second amendment moment to moment, but hopes the president will not go down that road.

“Depending on who’s in the room, he’s either pro or anti-second amendment.  I hope that he holds firm because if he basically kisses off the second amendment community, I think he’s going to be a one-term president,” said Hammond.

Listen to the full podcast to learn what Hammond think about requiring a background check for every firearm purchase or proposed red flag laws which would allow guns to be removed from Americans reported as a danger to themselves or others.  And we ask whether the Senate is likely to take up any of these issues.

American Medical Association Supports Assault Weapons Ban, Reconsiders Opposition to Physician-Assisted Suicide

June 14, 2018 by GregC

http://dateline.radioamerica.org/podcast/AMA.mp3

By: Joshua Paladino

The American Medical Association House of Delegates voted for a resolution to support a nationwide ban on the sale and ownership of “assault style weapons.”

The group also voted to support a nationwide gun-owners database, a 21-year-old age requirement for all firearms purchases, and greater restrictions on individuals with histories of domestic violence.

The AMA also requested that law enforcement have the right disarm people who are potentially suicide and possess firearms. Nearly two-thirds of the 30,000 people who die from a gun each year commit suicide, according to the Department of Justice.

At the same meeting, the American Medical Association voted to reconsider its long-standing opposition to physician-assisted suicide. The AMA’s current policy, according to its Code of Medical Ethics says, “Physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks.”

It continues: “Instead of engaging in assisted suicide, physicians must aggressively respond to the needs of patients at the end of life. Physicians should not abandon a patient once it is determined that cure is impossible.”

An AMA council studied physician-assisted suicide for the past two years and concluded that the group should remain opposed or neutral to the practice. The AMA House of Delegates, however, rejected the conclusion, with 56 percent of the delegates voting to continue to review the issue.

‘We Better Not Be Giving These People Even an Inch’

May 23, 2018 by GregC

http://dateline.radioamerica.org/podcast/5-23-pratt-blog.mp3

A sitting member of Congress is publicly proposing a ban on so-called military-style semi-automatic rifles and advocates criminal prosecution for Americans who refuse to take part in a mandatory buyback program.

In an opinion piece for USA Today, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif, laid out his proposal.

“[W]e should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons,” wrote Swalwell, who does allow for such weapons to be kept in police stations and shooting clubs.

Earlier this week, in a heated debate with Tucker Carlson on the Fox News Channel, Swalwell stood by his proposal, insisting no one would be going door to door to look for the banned weapons and make arrests, but he did say people could be charged and prosecuted for still owning the rifles if police found them in the course of normal police work.

“And if you were caught, just like if you were caught with drugs or anything else, and they had probable cause to go into your home and you had one of these weapons, yeah, you’d be prosecuted,” said Swalwell in his Fox News interview.

Gun Owners of America Executive Director Emeritus Larry Pratt says gun control advocates are now showing their cards.

“They really do want to go very, very far indeed and they’re willing to resort to extreme measures to do that,” said Pratt, who says the rhetoric about not wanting to take the guns away from law abiding citizens largely evaporated after the February massacre at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Pratt believes the biggest spark came a New York Times column from former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

“Stevens has opened the door to the deeper recesses of the left’s mind.  He called for the elimination of the second amendment.  That seems to have been followed by statements made by gun control advocates like Mr. Swalwell,” said Pratt.

According to Pratt, research shows that semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 save many more lives than they take.

“He is focusing on firearms that have been used for criminal purposes and he’s overlooking the fact that firearms are used four times more often – every day – to protect life,” said Pratt, also pushing back against the notion that the typical homeowner doesn’t need that kind of firepower.

“Many people have saved their lives from multiple invaders of their home with their AR-15.  One fellow said, ‘Yeah, I used all 30 rounds in my magazine.  I had to start using my semi-automatic pistol before it was over,'” said Pratt.

Pratt also says Swalwell’s ideas demonstrate why pro-second amendment Americans must stand their ground.

“He’s just making it easier, frankly, for the rest of us to say, ‘We better not be giving these people even an inch because you can see where they want to go,'” said Pratt.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is making enforcement of existing gun laws a high priority.  In fact, Sessions is now being criticized by the very people demanding new gun laws for being too aggressive in applying the old ones.

“If it weren’t for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.  These people really don’t live in the real world, I don’t think.  That’s why I don’t think they’re going to be getting much traction, and when they speak this way, not likely at all,” said Pratt.

To stop mass shootings in our schools and elsewhere, Pratt urges lawmakers and school officials to study what works.  He says 98 percent of mass shootings occur in gun-free zones, effectively working as a magnet for would-be shooters because they know they will not encounter armed resistance.

To the contrary, Utah allows weapons on school grounds and Texas, Georgia, and Alaska allow it to some extent. Pratt urges the scrapping of gun-free zones and for other states and locales to emulate the Utah model.

In the meantime, Pratt suspects the increasingly brazen gun control proposals will bring gun rights supporters to the polls.

“The more they talk like that, the more they’re going to motivate the pro-second amendment, pro-constitutional voter.  This hasn’t worked out well for them in the past,” said Pratt, noting the 1994 Republican revolution occurred just months after Democrats in Congress passed the “assault weapons” ban.

“If they want to campaign this way, we’ve got enough experience now that I can sit back and say, ‘Well good.  Keep on doing that,'” said Pratt.

Crippling Iran Sanctions, Gun Control vs. Facts, Blankenship Won’t Go Away

May 21, 2018 by GregC

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America cheer Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for inflicting punishing sanctions on Iran, making it clear the Trump administration does not think the Iranian regime can be partners on anything. They also sigh as the gun control movement tries to advance its agenda again after the Santa Fe High School shooting, even though their proposed legislation would have done nothing to prevent this horrific shooting. Jim also asks why so few are interested in finding out why teenage boys are now lashing out and killing people when they are bullied or rejected by girls. And they discuss Don Blankenship’s pathetic attempt to keep running for U.S. Senate in West Virginia despite getting thrashed in the GOP primary and a West Virginia law that prevents losers in primaries from running again in the general election.

Media Malpractice: Good Guy with a Gun, ‘Animal’ Lies, Ignoring Hamas Admissions

May 17, 2018 by GregC

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America take aim at three examples of egregious media bias.  They start with the heroism of Dixon High School (Ill.) school resource officer Mark Dallas, who saved countless lives in a would-be school shooting this week, yet the media glossed over the story since there was no body count and they have little interest in highlighting the effectiveness of a resource officer willing to engage the shooter.  They also slam the press for selectively quoting President Trump to make it seem he was referring to immigrants as “animals” when he was responding specifically to comment about the vicious Latin American gang MS-13.  And they throw up their hands as Hamas admits most of the people killed along the Israeli border were armed Hamas members and not random civilians and the media show no interest in reporting it.
