Avenatti Sentenced Again, Senate GOP Surrendering, Bolton 2024?

December 6, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Avenatti Sentenced Again, Senate GOP Surrendering, Bolton 2024?” on Spreaker.

Jim and Greg welcome the 14-year prison sentence handed down to former attorney and cable news darling Michael Avenatti for his crimes of corruption and they warn supporters of both parties not to fall in love with celebrities who happen to say a couple of things you agree with. They also slam Senate Republicans for being way too helpful in passing the Democrats’ lame duck agenda. That strategy apparently includes passing an omnibus spending bill instead of a short-term bill that would give the new House GOP majority much more leverage on appropriations. Finally, as former National Security Adviser John Bolton weighs a 2024 presidential run, they don’t believe his candidacy would go anywhere or be decisive in derailing President Trump.

Iowans Choose School Choice, Left Downplays Kavanaugh Threat, Grammys Get More Woke

June 9, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Iowans Choose School Choice, Left Downplays Kavanaugh Threat, Grammys Get More Woke” on Spreaker.

“Political Beats” host Scot Bertram is in for Jim today.  Scot and Greg cheer Iowa voters for ousting four Republican lawmakers who opposed legislation to give parents more options on how to educate their children. They also hammer Democrats and the media for greatly downplaying the arrest of a man attempting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh not far from Kavanaugh’s home. And they groan as the Grammys try to attract more viewers by adding new awards, including one for “Best Song for Social Change.”

Kavanaugh Threatened, Boudin Recalled & Caruso Advances, The Teetering 20’s?

June 8, 2022 by GregC

Listen to “Kavanaugh Threatened, Boudin Recalled & Caruso Advances, The Teetering 20’s?” on Spreaker.

Join Jim and Greg as they dissect the breaking news of a man arrested near Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home with the intent to kill him. They also cheer as San Francisco voters overwhelmingly recall pro-criminal district attorney Chesa Boudin and Los Angeles voters advance Rick Caruso to the general election. And they shudder as the World Bank projects a very rough economy for the rest of the decade. Meanwhile, Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow shows how little she cares about soaring gas prices.

Double Standards: Comparing Media Coverage of Biden & Kavanaugh Allegations

April 29, 2020 by GregC

Listen to “Double Standards: Comparing Media Coverage of Biden & Kavanaugh Allegations” on Spreaker.

Five weeks ago, Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer for Joe Biden, accused the likely Democratic presidential nominee of a 1993 sexual assault.  Despite the emergence of information that seems to provide some corroboration for the charge, no Biden surrogate had not been asked about the matter until this week.  Biden still has not been asked.

This approach from the media looks a lot different than the feeding frenzy that took place in September 2018, when the media went rifling through Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s past after Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of assaulting her in the early 1980’s.

Even with Ford unable to name the location or the year of her alleged assault and none of the supposed witnesses backing up her story, the media waged a relentless effort to find a pattern of such conduct by Kavanaugh – even giving credence to assertions that he was a gang rapist.

So what are we learning about the media and some politicians who seem to have very different standards for such accusations, depending upon the circumstances?  And what is the responsible way for the media to approach any story like this?

We get answers from Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino, co-author of the #1 bestseller “Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Court.”

Hemingway, Severino Dissect Latest Anti-Kavanaugh Smear

September 16, 2019 by GregC

Listen to “Hemingway, Severino Dissect Latest Anti-Kavanaugh Smear” on Spreaker.

Over the weekend, the New York Times mentioned a previously unreported allegation about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s conduct while a student at Yale University. But there were some big problems with the accusation.

First, the person alleging a different lewd incident involving Kavanaugh did not speak to the New York Times. The reporters in the story, who are also set to release a book on Kavanaugh, only spoke to people who say they are familiar with the accusation.

Even more shocking, the Times initially failed to report that the alleged victim in this story has no recollection of the incident in question. The Times finally added that piece of information after being called out by Mollie Hemingway, a senior editor at The Federalist.

Hemingway and Judicial Crisis Network Chief Counsel Carrie Severino are the authors of the #1 bestseller “Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court.”

In this interview with Greg Corombos, Hemingway and Severino discuss this latest attempt to accuse Justice Kavanaugh and why they are not at all surprised at this new effort to sully his reputation.

They also discuss the long-term goals of Democrats with respect to the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary, and they reveal the immense political pressure applied to one of Christine Blasey Ford’s high school friends last year to verify Ford’s initial accusation against Kavanaugh – even though she knew nothing about it.

Joe Neguse wants to pursue the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Year in Politics: Sabato Talks Midterms, Trump, 2020

December 24, 2018 by GregC

Listen to “Year in Politics: Sabato Talks Midterms, Trump, 2020” on Spreaker.

Almost everyone who will vote in 2020 has already made up their minds.  The 2018 midterms showed a divided America and political scientist Larry Sabato says we’ll see the same thing in the next cycle as America gears up for a presidential race.

Sabato, who directs the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, says Americans are locked into their political views and are not budging.  He says this is proven in President Trump’s unprecedented poll numbers, which hardly ever budge.

“Not much has changed, not much since the day he was elected in November 2016,” said Sabato.  “He got 46 percent of the vote.  I think if you filter the polls through likely voter status, you’ll find that he comes out about 46 percent.  Nothing’s changed.”

Sabato says this is also evident in how the midterms played out, with some voters sharply rebuking him and others giving him a bigger majority in the Senate.

“The message in the House election was that people wanted a check and balance on President Trump.  That’s the national election because you didn’t have a national election for Senate and for governors,” said Sabato.

“President Trump’s luck held because he was able to add two seats to the U.S. Senate.  Given the fact that Republicans already had the majority, those two extra votes will come in very handy for him in the new year,” said Sabato.

As for the outgoing Congress, Sabato suspects longtime GOP lawmakers will see the past two years as a great success due to passing tax cuts and criminal justice reform while confirming a record number of judges.  He suspects younger, more conservative members will feel like opportunities were missed on spending, repealing Obamacare and more.

Listen to the full podcast to hear Sabato’s assessment of the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, how Democrats will act once they have the majority in the House, and why he thinks there may be more than 20 Democrats running for president in 2020.
