Scot and Greg discuss the dramatic lurch leftward in Michigan during the midterm elections and how things somehow got even worse in Scot’s home state of Illinois. They also groan over Michigan’s full embrace of abortion and Montana voters rejecting a law requiring doctors to care for all babies born alive. They end on the lighter side as reports suggest some writers at Saturday Night Live are refusing to work this week in protest of host Dave Chappelle.

Listen to “Making Sense of the Midterms” on Spreaker.
Jim and Greg shake off the surprise of of an underwhelming midterm election for Republicans to dissect why Democrats were able to win so many races that the GOP seemed to have a good shot at. They chronicle the key races that got away, cheer the big wins in places like Florida and Texas, and note that the Republicans still have a good chance at winning the House and have a path left to claiming the majority in the Senate. And they try to determine what the GOP need to do differently or better in future election cycles.

Then the turn to the martinis as they welcome polling evidence that even more House races are tilting towards the Republicans and nearly all generic polls show a GOP edge…but you still need to vote! They also groan as Saudi intelligence suggests Iran is planning an “imminent” attack but also note the likely return of Benjamin Netanyahu to in Israel. America’s Diesel Dilemma, The Ugly Pelosi Blame Game, Is Abrams Sinking Warnock?
Join Jim and Greg as they serve up two bad martinis and a crazy one with a good aftertaste. First, they break down the latest warnings from Mansfield Energy that several states are already impacted by the diesel shortage on our country , some may have to go without fuel for short stretches, and prices will be going up. They also continue to wish Paul Pelosi a speedy recovery but slam President Biden for trying to turn the violent actions of a drug-addled nudist into an indictment of the Republican Party. And they shake their heads as Stacey Abrams says Gov. Brian Kemp is endorsed by 107 Georgia sheriffs because they “want to be able to take black people off the streets.” Jim says it’s another sign that Abrams is likely to lose and may take down Sen. Raphael Warnock with her.
GOP’s Big Midterm Edge, The Mirage of High-Speed Rail, Tulsi Leaves the Dems
Join Jim and Greg as they welcome analysis from MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki showing the economy and inflation as the biggest concerns for voters in the midterms and Republicans ahead overwhelmingly among those voters. They also credit the New York Times for shedding the light on the insane boondoggle of California’s high-speed rail project that is $80 billion over budget and won’t be done in our lifetimes. Finally, they discuss former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard officially leaving the Democrats and urging others fed up with the party to do the same.
