2023 Martini Awards Part 5: Most Overreported Story, Most Underreported Story, Best Story of 2023
It’s media day in our year-end Three Martini Lunch awards and Jim and Greg have plenty to say about how things were covered – if they were covered at all. Specifically, they look at the stories the mainstream media covered far too much, the ones they conveniently ignored because they didn’t fit their narrative, and they highlight what they saw as the best stories of 2023.
First, they dig into the most overreported stories of the year, with Jim choosing a specific angle of a story he thought was given far too much attention and Greg going with the non-stop chattering about a completely pointless topic.
Then it’s on to the stories the media didn’t cover much or didn’t want to cover. Jim points to media apathy concerning what may well be the greatest threat to American national security. Greg picks a horrifying tragedy that the media quickly stopped caring about when it reflected poorly on the left.
Finally, they reveal their selections for best stories of the year. Jim goes with a bright spot in an otherwise bleak story he covered closely this year. Greg opts for a member of Congress going above and beyond in a crisis – again.
Make sure to listen on Friday as Greg and Jim unveil their selections for Person of the Year and Turncoat of the Year. Plus, their predictions for 2024.
Thanks for listening to the 3 Martini Lunch!
2023 Martini Awards Part 3: Biggest Lie, Best Political Theater, Worst Political Theater
2023 Martini Awards Part 2: Sorry to See You Go, Rising Star, Fading Into Oblivion
They begin with those who left us over the past year. Jim chooses two friends involved in the political world who left suddenly and far too young. Greg mentions three figures, including a prominent conservative from across the Atlantic and a respected journalist in Washington.
Then it’s on to a much happier subject as they consider the rising political stars for 2023. They both choose Republicans on Capitol Hill – one of whom is frequently in the spotlight and other who is often working behind the scenes.
Finally, they agree on the political name most likely heading into oblivion after 2023. But Greg tosses out one other name near the top of his list who emerged from relative anonymity onto the national stage and now seems headed back to obscurity.

2023 Martini Awards Part 1: Most Overrated, Underrated, Honest Political Figures
In this first installment, they offer their individual selections for Most Overrated Political Figure, Most Underrated Political Figure, and Most Honest Political Figure.
Jim and Greg are largely in agreement on whom they see as the most overrated political figure of the year, although they come at the selection from different perspectives.
When it comes to underrated political figures, they both pick presidential candidates but for very different reasons.
Finally, Jim’s choice for most honest political figure is someone he woud have never imagined just a few months ago, while Greg picks one of the few lawmakers who has no problem calling out his own side.
Don’t miss Friday’s special edition, when Jim and Greg list the political figures they were sorry to see pass away in 2023. They’ll also name their rising stars over the past year and people who seem to be fading into political oblivion.

Youngkin Targets the Car Tax, Colorado Bars Trump from the Ballot, Kirby’s Afghanistan Revisionism
Join Jim and Greg as they cheer Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin for making a strong case to permanently kill the horrible car tax that resident have to pay every year simply for owning a car. But will the idea go anywhere with Democrats controlling the legislature?
Then they dig into the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to ban Donald Trump from the 2024 Republican primary ballot because he allegedly led an insurrection, and that disqualifies him under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. But with no criminal charges of insurrection and a political acquittal, does the court have any grounds to do this? The U.S. Supreme Court will decide.
They also blast White House National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby for trying to convince us that we really didn’t leave tens of billions worth of military equipment behind in Afghanistan.
Finally, be sure to catch Jim and Greg handing out their prestigious 3 Martini Lunch Awards starting Thursday and running through the end of the year. They’ll reveal their choices for the most overrated and underrated political figures, rising political stars and figures fading into oblivion, beast and worst political ideas, best and worst political theater, and overreported and underreported stories of the year. At the end of next week, they will announce their choices for Person of the Year, Turncoat of the Year, and make predictions for 2024. Join us tomorrow for all of the fun!

Dems Worried Biden Will Lose, Iran Targets U.S. Forces 100 Times, Gen Z’s ‘Menu Anxiety’
Join Jim and Greg as they enjoy reports suggesting Biden is frustrated with his advisers because the American people continue to think he’s doing a lousy job. And Democrats down the ballot are getting worried he could become a drag for them too.
They also fume as Iranian proxy groups targets American forces for the 100th time in the past two months. Biden’s responses have been extremely timid and the media are dutifully downplaying the reports of these attacks.
Finally, they sigh as new polling shows a disturbingly high percentage of young adults diagnose themselves with “menu anxiety.” They are very uncomfortable speaking with waiters and waitresses, fear ordering something they may not like, and some ask others at the table to speak to the waiter on their behalf.

Strong DeSantis Moments, Dems Refuse to Address the Border, Major Debate Sniping
Join Jim and Greg as they serve up three important martinis, but they begin by reacting to Thursday morning’s House censure of New York Democrat Jamal Bowman for deliberately pulling a fire alarm to delay a floor vote a couple of months ago.
Then they cheer a couple of strong moments from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in Wednesday night’s debate, including demanding college and universities have more skin in the game when it comes to student loans and citing Calvin Coolidge as a president who inspires him.
They also hammer the Biden administration for balking at efforts by congressional Republicans to address the obviously broken border and tying it to aid for Ukraine and Israel.
Finally, they head back to the debate and address the many dust-ups, usually involving Vivek Ramaswamy against Nikki Haley and Chris Christie.

Remembering Henry Kissinger, Hamas Kills More Israeli Civilians, Trump Supported by BLM?
Join Jim and Greg as they remember the long and complicated legacy of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who advised presidents for 60 years before his death Wednesday at the age of 100. They highlight Kissinger’s record and why he is deeply respected by some deeply reviled by others.
They also hammer Hamas for the deadly shootings of Israeli civilians in Jerusalem, including a pregnant teacher, and what this means for the temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
Finally, they scratch their heads after former President Trump claims he has the support of a former Black LIves Matter official and from the organization itself. While the veracity of the BLM support is drawing scrutiny, why would Trump want it in the first place?
